"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
-- James 1:2-4

Thank God for the Rain

By "Jade"

Clouds are above
they're black and full
ready to open
and spill their contents
at the slightest wave
of Your hand

I can feel it in the air
I can see it coming my way
I can hear thunder in the distance
I can see lighting on the horizon
Threatening and leering at me
but I know I can say

Thank God for the rain
that splatters on my soul
Thank God for the clouds
that shade light from my heart
Thank God for the thunder
that echoes in the silence
Thank God for the lightning
that strikes at my being
But most of all
thank God for the rain

A splash of rain
A rumble very near
The sky lights up
at Your command
and the clouds You move
like pawns in chess

Finally, and one by one
the drops pierce my soul
one by one the lightening bolts
chose their victims
I'd stand helpless but for You
strong and steadfast saying

Thank God for the rain
that splatters on my soul
Thank God for the clouds
that shade light from my heart
Thank God for the thunder
that echoes in the silence
Thank God for the lightning
that strikes at my being
But most of all
thank God for the rain

I know it's only after the rain
that the rainbow will appear
and if I give up I'll never see it
so let the waters drench me
and let the jagged light reach out
and and rip my heart
Let the thunder shake the ground
and let the clouds block the sun

I know You have a reason
and I'm not gonna run
I'm not gonna slip
I'm gonna stand here and take it
I'm gonna close my eyes and pray
and when the storm passes
as they tend to do
I'll open my eyes
and wonder at the new colors
you've added to my life

Thank You for the rain
that splatters on my soul
Thank You for the clouds
that shade light from my heart
Thank You for the thunder
that echoes in the silence
Thank You for the lightning
that strikes at my being
But most of all
thank You for the rain

"In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed."
-- 1 Peter 1:6-7
