Block Watch

Date: 5/20/2008

Location: Huntington Bank at Crosswoods

Present: Pat & Cindy Frey, Jason Berner, Will Pawlikowski, Anthony & Tori Blazer, Monica Pierce, Stacy Graff, Mike & Lisa Montooth, William Melendez, Kate Hagemann, Rich & Myssi Lyon

Jason Berner introduced Officer Mancini, of the 18th precinct for the Columbus Police Department, who will be our police liaison for the Block Watch. He began the meeting by letting the homeowners know it is important to get the Block Watch organized now. He also noted the importance of making sure new homeowners are aware of the Block Watch. It will help keep our property values up and taking care of the little things will help deter crime appearance is everything.

Block Watch handbooks were then distributed, along with a Community Telephone Guide and a Reporting Suspicious Persons and Activities flyer. Officer Mancini explained he will meet with the Block Watch Coordinator, who would then share information with the Block Watch Captains, who in turn would pass that along to the Block Watch Members (see handbook for roles and responsibilities). Office Mancini then gave examples of things the Block Watch could do such as flashlight walks, block watch stickers for visual indication of involvement and the 9 Neighbors Program. He encouraged those involved to begin reaching out to our neighbors.

Officer Mancini advised the community will need to have 3 meetings to be recognized as a Block Watch community, at which point the city will provide 2 signs to place at the entrances to our neighborhood. Meeting 2 will be Residential Security, such as surveillance and landscaping techniques. Meeting 3 will be personal safety and awareness. Jason Berner will be responsible for coordinating with Officer Mancini the following 2 sessions and the city will provide Jason with flyers to use to announce the upcoming meetings.

Lisa Montooth suggested having another meeting to review what was discussed in tonights meeting with those that had originally expressed interest in the Block Watch, but may have been unable to attend this meeting. Jason Berner will organize and contact those interested, as well as schedule the 2nd meeting.

Officer Mancini adjourned the meeting, with his thanks to those who are getting involved.
