Good Morning Sun Shine" Scissors

This is a great activity for beginning cutters. Show your children how to snip around the edges of a circle cut from yellow paper to make "sun rays." When your child is finished, bend the sun rays, some in and some out. Then let your child draw a smiley face on the sun and choose a place to display it.

Many parent hesitate to allow their young children to use scissors because  they think their children might make a mess or cut their hair, curtains, clothing, books, or other valuables.  It is a very important that your children learn to use scissors. He or she will be involved in many activities in kindergarten that will require the use of scissors. Man of these concerns can be prevented by teaching your child to use scissors properly.

  1. Show your child how to hold the scissors. Special scissors can be purchased for children who are left-handed.

2. Start out with a 1-by-9-inch strip of paper. Let your  children snip the paper strip into small pieces. You may need to help your child hold the paper strip or  hold your hand over your child's hand to help open and close the scissors.
