Rainbows and Balloons
This picture was taken at his burial. I am unsure what caused the rainbow in the corner of the picture, but it is the inspiration behind my poem “What is a Rainbow”. In remembrance of Curtis for his third anniversary.
What is a Rainbow?
The sky that day was blue as the sea
Balloons were flying through it
Flying so high waving goodbye
Waving goodbye to me.
And then they were gone
And still I watched
Watched and wondered where
Where had all the balloons gone
The balloons that were way up there.
Then sadly as I turned around
To face the pain again
Our baby was lowered with so much love
Lowered into that cold hard ground.
As the weeks turned into months
The pain too much to bear
I’d open up his album
And just sit with him there.
I’d stare hard at that picture
And then I’d close my eyes
Till one day when I opened them
I saw to my surprise.
There was a rainbow in the corner
Every colour you could see
I shook my head in disbelief
Wondering how this could be.
Then the months grew into years
And I pondered on what I see
As the rainbow in the photo
But not in reality.
Then suddenly it dawned on me
And I realised where
Where the balloons went that day
The balloons that were way up there.
They went to that place we dream about
That special place way up high
They were given to all the angels
Angels waiting in the sky.
(with love
Mummy xx)
