Curtis – his poems

”Poetry is an orphan of silence.  The words

never quite equal the experience behind them…”

I wrote this poem in the first year

If I had a wish…

If I had a wish

That wish would be

October 16 never happened

And you were still with me.

If I had a wish

The pain would end

I could understand why

And my heart would mend.

If I had a wish

I would hold you so tight

You’d smile up at me

As I tucked you in at night.

If I had a wish

You’d be here for good

Growing up with your brothers

Our family would then be

just as it should.

We miss you Curtis

I wrote this poem in the second year

Curtis please know….

Curtis please know

It’s been nearly two years

And still there are tears

Part of me is always with you

If only I could tell you

If only you knew.

Curtis please know

From the moment I wake

I can see your sweet face

The image so clear

Almost like you’re still here.

Curtis please know

I still can’t believe

Things happened that way,

The single worst event of my life,

Why, oh why couldn’t you stay?

Curtis please know

We’ve had another baby, a little girl

Your sister, she’s so cute and nearly a year

But my mind plays tricks every now and then

I look down at her face and it’s you I see there.

Curtis please know

Your brothers remember you still

You’ve left a hole, that no-one can fill.

But I carry you always in that special place

Deep in my heart,

Where nothing will hurt, and I know you are safe.

Love always,

Mummy xx
