Lotus with Colin Chapman was involved in the design (at least
suspension). This was a time when Toyota was making great leaps in technology,
and what better place to put them than in the Supra:
-
rack&pinion steering
-
semi-trailing arm rear suspension
-
LSD
-
cooled brake disks, 4-wheel disk brakes
-
turbo (Japan only at this point, with M-TEU)
-
Fuel injection also evolved, and the ECU took over the control of ignition
timing as well.

There are a few minor differences in the body styling. 84-86 have the
turn signals wrap around the corner unlike 82-83. Also, the rear sunshade
is different (not all models even had one). Then there is the type with
fender flares (Sports, regular type in North America),and the one without
(L-type, British and some other European models)
1982-1983 no flares,
no rear spoiler, early style 14" wheels for Japan/Europe
1984-1986 no flares,
rear spoiler (later style), 15"x5.5" pyramid wheels
1984-1986 flares,
rear spoiler (later style), 14"x7" pyramid wheels, later style taillights
We are proud owners of a 1983 Supra MKII,
on its way to be a very fast car. We will document our mods and
progress, with hard evidence about performance gains whenever possible...
