This is the addition to my garage that I've been busy building an thus didn't get much finished on my 1970 911E targa... (this is my other targa that I wanted to keep free of the construction dust and mess from my project car...)
This page will cover the passenger side rocker panel and other applicable shots...
Here you can see the passenger side rocker panel after I pulled the old dent out into shape to make sure the gap was good before I cut it out...(There are about 100 spot welds that need to be cut out!)
This is the new rocker panel as received from "Doc N' Cys", it will require cutting and fitting before it's ready to be welded...
I wanted to make sure I was fitting the rocker panel to the actual edge of the door, as opposed to the edge of the door with a dozen coats of paint...
Here the door is off, the inner rocker panel has been cleaned and painted with a product called POR-15...(both the door and the fender had to be installed several times with the fender mounting panel, to make sure the gaps remained equal)
After stripping the door down to bare metal and prepping and priming the door, I re-intalled it to make sure the gap was even all the way around.
Here are shots of the outer rocker down to the bare metal, with a coat of POR-15 on the inside, before priming...
This is a picture showing the location of all the original factory spot welds...
Here I've plug welded the holes to replicate the original spot welds...(the door had to be opened and closed about a hundred times to make sure the gap wasn't moving as I was welding the spots...)
This is the final product, a rocker panel that looks as good a new...(Except for the missing holes at the front of the rockers, this didn't bother me too much considering the holes are covered by the sill plates anyway....)
