4. The Firebird Trans Am.


The ultimate Firebird. Like the other Firebirds, Trans Am is unique. And like the other
Firebirds, it's not unique just because of the way it looks. You see, all the equipment
that makes it look like something from the next decade is also making a definite con-
tribution to performance. That's the ultimate achievement of Trans Am.
The statement about looking like something from the next decade was not too far off, in retrospect. From the blacked-out grills, to the wheel opening flares, the functional air extractors, air dam, and spoiler, this sort of styling and equipment put Trans Am above its contemporaries and into the league of the exotic cars of the time. Too bad that they didn't make more of these.
