Your story was incredible, great work on the suzuki modifications. I had a wreck in 1996 on a 1993 Yamaha Seca 600. Everything came out alright but I do still have hip pain. Nothing compared to your story. If you ever want to talk just send some email. Gi

Dave you're awesome!! :) I am honored and proud to know someone with so much strength and courage. You really are an inspiration. By the way, what the hell are you doing being a Biology major?! You should be an English major instead and write a novel on
day!!

A story I can identify with, as I sit here waiting for my left leg to mend. I got a compound fracture of the left tibia, and a broken fibula. I've been thru 7 operations: pin in leg, muscle and skin graft, bone infection, pin out, install external fixator
put in new pin, remove right lat muscle and graft over tibia with skin graft. One more to go, a bone graft. It's been 12 weeks, and will be another 8-10 before I can try out my leg. Cruthes are fun.
And most definitely, I will ride asap. I've had plenty of time to determine the bike (Bandit 1200) and plan all the mods. I know what you mean about people not understanding wanting to ride again, since I came within a hair of losing my leg below the knee
but that's their problem. In my case, the wreck was my fault. I let my mind wander and a curve sneeked up on me, and when I whipped the bike over to the angle I thought necessary, the centerstand grounded hard, lifting the rear tire. I got the bike stood
back up, but the front was doing a tank slapper, and I couldn't keep it on the road. Got a 45 minute chopper ride out of it (1st time).
Good luck. I will still be able to use my leg and foot, albiet it won't be quite as good as before. For a while, I didn't know if I would lose it or not, so I know what went thru mentally.

A very inspiring story. I can't believe you had the courage to try to ride without the use of one arm. I'm a new rider and I'm just begining to really appreciate the sport/hobby. I think that scared feeling you had is something we can all related (espe
ially us newbies). I've felt the same way at every milestone (first ride, first long trip, etc.)
My hat's off to you.

An inspirational story. You write well. I've been hit by cars 6 times while riding for 32 years. Last time they wanted to fuse my knee solid because it was "junk." It's not. Hurts to walk but feels great to ride.
Healing is 75% attitude,
Are we stupid? Maybe. But we LOVE motorcycles.
My mother still dreads phone calls in the night, usually the ER. But she knows how happy riding makes me so she accepts it.
Ride fast, ride safe.

What a story! Your courage and upbeat outlook should be shared with many, your story told to (especially) young bike riders...as well as many car drivers who just don't seem to see us bikers/cyclists!
I will pass your web address on to others.
I am so glad fate has decided we need to be friends!

Hi David,
Now here's a good example that you can never be too careful driving a bike when there are cages on the road. You always have to ackt as if they haven't seen you. Good thing that you got back on two wheels!
Take care,
Dan

I, I'm one of your neighbours in geocities, I'm portuguese, I founded a motorcycle club in Algarve (south of Portugal) and at the moment am living in Macau until 1999, this is a portuguese administered territory, with 3 islands (near Hong Kong).
It's an interesting story, you recovery and love of riding bikes and enjoying life, I have no words, but surely you have a great will power on your side to help you, hang on!
In my homepage, dedicated to the motorcycle club, there are a few stories and adventures, but in portuguese. Anyway, soon I will have some english twin pages. You can have a look around, of course, it's still a humble site, graphically, but we like visits
and I will improve it for sure!
Write to you later! Hang on!
Miguel!
P.S. A big bikers salute!

Hi Dave, I thought I'd stop by your site and get some pointers on your web page. What editor do you use, it looks like netscape 3.0. Have you heard anything about netscape communicator, is it worthwhile? I've been working on EVT's basketball page, and
I'm trying to find a good editor, everyone seemsto rave about Adobe Pagemill, what do you think? How have you been, I haven't talked to your Dad lately.
