    There were no surprises as the first round of the KasparovChess Cadet Grand Prix came to a close on Tuesday. Well, unless of course you count the fact that we didn’t have any technical problems with the match between Vladimir Belov and Victor Alcazar Jimenez! There wasn’t a single disconnection or crash as the strong Russian 15-year-old outplayed his Spanish opponent in both their games to go into the semifinals along with the other favorites.

    Several hundred spectators, included world champion Garry Kasparov, came by to catch the action. (Editor Mig Greengard had the unique experience of receiving live game commentary from the champ as they spoke on the phone and watched the games at the same time! How much do you think we could charge for this service?!) Unfortunately the online commentary features of the software aren’t fully functional yet, but senior programmers Arik Levin and Arie Rudich say today  could be the day!

    Teimour Radjabov and Murugan Thiruchelvam finished their first round match
on Tuesday as well. Radjabov had won the first game with black and quickly
locked the second game up for a rather dreary draw.

    The semifinal match-ups :

    Bu Xiangzhi (China) vs. Zahar Efimenko (Ukraine)
    Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaijan) vs. Vladimir Belov (Russia)
