Chapter 92, A 30th Birthday |
Breanna thanked Brian for picking her up at the airport and quickly ran up the front steps of the mansion that she shared with Howie. Breanna had spent her entire day at the record company's office in New York. She had just flown back to Orlando that afternoon after successfully backing out of her contract without legal action. Breanna never told Howie when she would be home and she knew that fighting with the record company could have kept her for days. She knew that leaving Anna alone with her father was the right thing to do. After arriving back in Orlando, Breanna had Brian pick her up from the airport hoping to surprise Howie. "I'm home!" Breanna shouted to Howie and Anna. The house was silent and dark. "They probably fell asleep together again." Breanna said, smiling to herself.
Breanna stumbled over something on the floor and quickly turned on the nearest light. "What the hell?" She questioned loudly as she picked up a large box. She opened the box and noticed a rose on the bottom of it. She picked it up with a confused face before smelling it. She noticed another box a few yards away in front of the staircase. Again, she opened the box to discover another rose, but this one was made out of white chocolate. Breanna looked up the staircase and noticed a narrow box on the stairs. She walked up the stairs and picked up the box. The box read "Cartier's". Breanna giggled as she opened the box but was soon disappointed when she found nothing but a small piece of paper. "Damn." She muttered as she took the paper out of the box. Her hands were becoming full so she continued up the stairs to put the roses and jewelry box away. The note read "you thought you were getting jewelry, right? Well, maybe you are and maybe you're not. You never liked it when I bought you gifts before, so I guess I'm saving some money. Then again, you know how much I like to surprise you." Breanna smirked as she reached the top stair. Another box awaited. She picked the larger box up and opened it. "Another note!" She shouted in disbelief. She grabbed the note and read it aloud. "I thought your hands may be getting full by now. Just throw that stuff in here." Breanna laughed as she tossed everything into the larger box and continued down the hallway to her room.
Once she passed the first bedroom she noticed an envelope taped to the door. She slowly pried it off, careful not to take the paint off the door, and stood in front of the room, staring at the envelope. She turned it over to read "most people would be opening this by now." She laughed out loud realizing that he knew her better than she knew herself. She quickly opened the envelope to find another note. "Empty! Go into the room and maybe you'll find something else." She walked into the room and looked around. It was one of their biggest guest bedrooms and lavishly decorated. They liked to use it when Breanna's parents would visit. Breanna couldn't find anything and was about to leave the room when she noticed another envelope taped to the back side of the door. 'You little prick.' She thought as she ripped it off the door, this time not caring about the paint. When she opened it she found a smaller envelope. She took the envelope out and read "I figured you would be getting impatient and bitchy by now so here's something to hold you over until you find your real surprise...that is, if there really is one." Breanna quickly opened the smaller envelope and took out the bracelet that Howie first bought for her when they met in Vegas. He had it cleaned and more engraved. Next to 'may this never end' he had 'or stop again' engraved. Breanna laughed she she remembered Howie telling her that the week before. It was a little joke the couple used to make light of the past year.
Breanna was about to go straight to her room when she realized that there was a trail of roses leading to her room and a trail leading to all the others. She decided to go to all the other rooms. Each time she opened a door she noticed that there was nothing different or added. No boxes or envelopes. Once she reached Anna's room she knew that there had to be something there. She walked around the large nursery and looked into every drawer and closet. She came up empty handed and was about to leave when she noticed that Anna's favorite toy, a stuffed leopard that AJ bought for her, was on the ground. Usually the toy was in the circular crib to help Anna fall asleep. Breanna walked over to the toy and picked it up and placed it in the crib but stopped when she noticed another box, but it was larger than the others. When Breanna opened it she laughed. There was close to two dozen real and chocolate roses. In the center was a smaller box and a note tied to it. "I knew you would have noticed that Anna's leopard would be out of place and I knew you would pick it up and place it back in the crib. By the way, stop trying to fix the crib sheets." Breanna laughed hysterically. As she read the note, she had been absent-mindly fixing the sheets in the crib so that they would not wrinkle. "This isn't your real present but it'll sustain you." She finished reading aloud. She picked up the box and quickly opened it, hoping it wasn't a ring of any type. Though they seemed happier than ever, she was still dealing with her private demons and was not ready to become engaged. When she opened the box she quickly exhaled. The top side of the ring box read "Relieved, aren't you?" The present inside the box was a silver necklace with a heart locket hanging from it. When she opened the locket she saw a picture of Howie on one side and a recent picture of Anna on the other. From the center of the locket a small folded piece of paper fell out. Breanna picked up the paper and read it to herself. "Stop crying" it said. She laughed as she wiped away the tears. "How does he know me so well?" She smiled to herself as she walked out of the room, placing the locket around her neck.
Breanna continued down the hallway until she reached her bedroom door. She slowly opened the door and was expecting to see Anna with Howie but was surprised to find the room completely empty and almost completely dark if it wasn't for the light coming from the hallway. The door closed behind her back and Breanna jumped. The room was pitch black. 'Where's Anna?' Breanna thought as she felt warm hands cover her eyes. "Don't worry. Anna's with Izabel and Brian." Breanna quickly felt relieved. "How'd you know...?" "You were coming home early? Cause Chris called me after they let you out of the contract and I had Brian call your cellphone just to 'chat'. He helped me set this up. I took Anna to stay with Izabel about 10 minutes before you landed while Brian waited at the airport for you." Howie explained as they walked around the room. After a few seconds Breanna realized that he was up to something and froze. Howie leaned over and kissed her neck knowing that it was her weak spot just like himself. "I love you too much to take it this slow. I need you tonight and I know you need me, too." He whispered into her neck. They had agreed to take it slow and had not been intimate together since the night Anna was conceived.
Before long, Breanna gave in to his wanting. When Howie took his hands away from her eyes, she was shocked to see the room covered in roses and photos of any little thing that would remind Breanna of all the things she and Howie had done together. She smiled to herself as Howie laid her on the bed and continued to kiss her all over. Breanna started to take his clothes off when she heard someone running down the hallway. Howie heard it too and they both jumped up. They thought something was wrong with Anna, but before they could find out, AJ was yelling through the door. "Breanna! Get your ass out here! You forgot about something!" Breanna annoyingly blew her hair out of her face while looking for her clothes. "DAMN! I am going to kill him." Howie shouted. "Not if I kill him first!" She replied as she threw open the door.
Breanna angrily stepped out of the bedroom and closed the door behind her back. "If you know what's good for you, you'd be running down that hall right now." Breanna said through clenched teeth. "Oh, shit. I know, I'm sorry, but you forgot something about today." He told Breanna as she stared at him, grinding her teeth. "WHAT IS IT?" She annoyingly asked. "Um, well, the club thing is, well, tonight, and all, and you forgot. And so did Brian. I guess, I think...oh god, I think my life is endangered...sorry! Oh boy." AJ explained feeling very uncomfortable. Breanna was about to lunge at him but quickly stopped. "Oh shit! I forgot. How the fuck did Brian forget? Yeah, thanks, AJ. Go on, I'll go get him ready." She told AJ before stepping back into the room. Breanna continued to curse at Brian as she walked towards the walk-in closet. "God damn, Brian, that stupid mutha..." "BREANNA!" Howie scolded as he sat on the edge of the bed. "Sorry. Um, go take a cold shower or something. We have some place to be tonight and I forgot all about it." Howie looked at Breanna sideways. Breanna knew he wanted some sort of explanation. "Your 30th birthday was last week, right?" Howie looked at Breanna and nodded his head. "Then don't ask me any questions and trust me. Just go get ready, okay?" She asked before walking back towards the closet.
Two hours later Breanna was driving them to a secret location. "So? What is this?" He asked. "I'm not telling but we're almost there!" She replied with a smile. They were both dressed up and ready to party. Izabel's sister was visiting that week and agreed to baby-sit Anna, Sarah, and Thomas so everyone could go out without worrying. A few blocks away from their destination, Breanna reached over and tied a blindfold over Howie's eyes to block his vision. "Sorry babe. It's a surprise." She told him. He could hear the smile in her voice. After ten minutes Breanna parked the car and ran around to the other side to help him out. They walked into a quiet building and Howie knew that he recognized the place even though he couldn't see. When Breanna removed the blindfold, his face lit up. They guys had booked the most popular night club in Orlando on a Saturday night. The week before the guys had thrown a private family party for Howie just to hold him over until they could really celebrate. Howie looked around the room and noticed friends from all over the world. "You guys did all this?" He asked in astonishment. The rest of the guys nodded their heads and smiled. AJ was the first to walk over to Howie to give him a hug. "You're gettin' old, man. You're gettin' old." AJ was quick to remind him. Howie laughed and hugged him back. "So? Did you get lucky yet? What's it been? Over a year?" AJ teased. Howie's eyes became wide before narrowing with anger. "I was *about* to have the time of my life until *you* decided to throw me the best party I've ever had in my entire life." Howie replied quietly as to only AJ could hear. "Well, you can party later tonight." AJ replied. "Oh, I plan on it."
