Breanna leaned over her bed and picked up the ringing phone. "Hello?" "Hi, Honey." She heard her mother somberly reply. "Mom? What's wrong?" Breanna could sense that something wasn't right. She heard her mother's voice shake slight before she replied. "You need to sit down, Breen." Her mother said. "I'm sitting." Breanna said in a calming voice. "Bree, sweetheart, Alexei was in an accident." Her mother stated. Breanna felt the air leave her lungs as she sat on her bed, stunned. A moment later she realized that Alexei had probably been driving recklessly. "How typical!" Breanna huffed in her mind. "Jeez, I told him not to go to the mountains with the snow storm coming. But did he listen to me? Noooooooo!" Breanna complained. "So, how messed up is his car? I hope he got a sprained wrist. That'll teach him to listen to his sister." Breanna stated stubbornly. She heard no reply from her mother. "Mom?" Breanna eventually asked when she realized that she was being too quiet. "Bree, honey. Your brother didn't make it." Breanna couldn't figure out what she was talking about. "Alexei playing games with you, mom." Breanna was in a state of denial as she continued to talk. "Honey, the highway patrol called us an hour ago after they found the wreckage." Her mother explained as tears coursed down her cheeks. "Mom, can I call you back?" Breanna asked, trying not to cry. "Yeah, honey." "Thanks. I love you, mom." Breanna quickly clicked the phone off and fell backwards onto the bed.
"No, he's fine. I'm sure he made it to the cabin with plenty of time before the storm hit. They probably found someone else's wrecked car. My brother's in a nice cabin in the mountains with his new fiancée. I know he is." Breanna tried to convince herself. Before long she had passed out on the bed. A few minutes later she woke up to the feeling of something shaking her arm. "Huh?" She asked as she slowly sat up to see who woke her. Her brother was standing next to the bed smiling happily. He looked almost peaceful. "Lex, you would never believe what happened today! I just got off the phone with mom and she said that you died in a car accident! Who the hell is playing those kind of sick games with her mind? You need to call her and tell her you're okay." Breanna stated as she watched her brothers face expression. He grinned at her sympathetically. After a moment he shook his head, his blonde hair glistening in the light of the sun. "That's funny. It was storming when I fell asleep." Breanna thought. Alexei took a seat next to her and took her hand in his. He stared at his sisters face with the same happy expression. "What is up with you? You get lucky?" Breanna asked. Her brothers happy mood was starting to annoy her. "Oh!! Amada agreed to marry you! Right? I knew it!" Breanna cooed. Alexei shook his head no. "What? You didn't ask her?" Again her brother shook his head no. "Can't you talk?" She asked with annoyance. "Yes. You know I can." He finally replied. His voice was soft and comforting. "Lex, what's going on?" Breanna asked feeling an odd feeling in her stomach. "Bree, let me tell you a few things, okay?" She nodded her head in agreement as he continued to talk. "Breanna, I never got a chance to ask Amada to marry me because the snow storm hit while we were driving. We couldn't see what was going on and eventually we drove off a cliff. We didn't survive, Breen. That phone call mom got wasn't a joke." Alexei explained calmly. "What? No, Lex, it was a joke! You're hear talking to me right now. You couldn't do that if you were dead!" Breanna shouted. "Yes I could, and I am. Bree, you're asleep and dreaming. Look around you." He stated. Breanna glanced around the room and noticed that there was bright sunlight coming in from the ceiling but it was dark outside. Her brother was dressed in light blue and white, an outfit she had never seen before. Her alarm clock flashed 12:12. She glanced back up at her brother as he nodded his head.
"I'm dreaming?" She asked. Alexei nodded his head. "Then you're not real? I'm making you up?" Breanna asked. Alexei shook his head. "No, you're not making me up. I'm real. I'm here to give you your last bit of brotherly advice and to say good-bye." He explained. "But you can't be dead, Lex! What am I going to do without you? You're my life! You're my everything! Who do I go to when I need someone to cry to? Someone to listen to me? Someone to joke with me? Someone to love me?" She asked as tears streamed down her cheeks uncontrollably. "Breen, that person has been there all along. You know who I'm talking about. And your group of friends, they're there for you, too. Everything I could ever tell you or give you, they can, too. Eve, Izabel, and Natasha will always be there for you even though I know you'll always run to the guys." Breanna grinned through her tears because her brother was right. "Kevin sees you as his baby sister who he has to give advice to always. Nick sees you as the best friend he never had, the older sister he never had. AJ sees you as the girl he has to constantly protect. He knows everything about you, even things you don't know about. Bree, he knows *everything* and he loves you regardless. Brian...well, Brian loves you more than you know. He keeps an eye out for you when you don't even realize it. He's probably the one who comes closest to me. And Howie? Bree, he loves you more than his own life. He's lost without you. He'll forgive you for whatever you have done because you're his life. He's even in LA at the moment to see you and try to make things right. He was on his way here this afternoon but I made sure he turned around because his fate wasn't in the cards today. If he kept going, he would be with me now in your dream. He's the one you need to hold on to, Bree. He's the one who loves you and will take care of you, if you would only let him. Unfortunately I don't have that kind of power, no one does, only you." Alexei stopped to give Breanna a chance to comprehend what he was saying before he continued. "They all love you, Bree. They're all there for you. You don't need me, but you don't realize that now. But, you will. I'll always be there in your heart. And I'll always be watching over you." "Don't leave me." Breanna whispered. "I can't stay, honey. My time here is done." Alexei replied quietly as he held his sister in his arms one last time. "What do I do?" She asked as he stroked her hair. "You go on living. You go on loving. You just go on. Live your life, Bree. At least try to live it for me. You don't realize how much you'll miss it once it's gone. Time passes quickly and each day is numbered. Your day could be up tomorrow or in 100 years. Try to live life as if it's your last day on earth." He pushed Breanna's hair out of her face to look into her eyes. "My Green Eyed Monster." He joked as he kissed her forehead. "Green Eyed Monster?" She questioned. "Yeah, when you were born, your eyes were green for the first year before the changed to light brown." He explained. "I never knew that." "Me neither. It's amazing the things you start to remember when you're no longer mortal." He stated. It was starting to hit Breanna that her brother was really dead and that he would be gone within minutes. "Do you have any last wishes for me?" She asked softly. "Yes, I do. LIVE! Be happy, be loved, be successful, and be a good mother when the time is right. I'd really love to see you back with Howie, but I'm not going to request that. That's for you to figure out on your own. I know you hated when I nagged you about him when I was alive so I'm sure not going to do it while I'm dead." Breanna smiled for the first time as she clung to her brother. "Baby, I have to go. I've spent too much time here and you're about to wake up." "I just can't let go." Breanna replied. "But you have to let go, sweetie. It's fate. I'm okay, I'm alive somewhere else watching over you. Just remember that I love you. Don't worry Breanna, you'll get over my death quicker than you think." Alexei said as he pulled Breanna's arms off his body. "I'll never get over you." She said as she watched her brother stand up. "Yes you will. I love you, Bree." Before Breanna realized what was happening, Izabel was waking her up.
"Hey Bree? It's almost 6. Maybe you should wake up that way you won't have any trouble sleeping tonight." Izabel stated as she sat on Breanna's bed. Breanna looked up at Izabel, her eyes red and swollen. "Oh no! What's wrong?" She questioned. "Iz, I told you something was wrong earlier and I was right." Breanna said as she cried frantically. "What's wrong? I don't get it." Izabel replied. "Izabel, Alexei was in a car accident." Breanna cried. "Oh no, is he okay?" Izabel had a feeling she knew the answer. "No, he didn't make it." Breanna whispered as tears continued to fall. Izabel's motherly instincts kicked in as she pulled Breanna towards her body and rocked her softly, letting her cry it all out.
