Chapter 66, Snow Trips |
Izabel ordered Breanna to stay off the more vigorous equipment. Breanna loved the harder things but complied with Izabel's wishes. She wondered over to the treadmills and put the speed to 3.4 MPH. After working out for half an hour, the personal trainer at the gym walked up to Breanna. "Hey girl! Long time no see!" He replied. "Hey Gil. I've been busy lately. I would have come sooner but ya know how it goes." Breanna replied. Gil looked her over and gave her a large smile. "You happy?" He asked. "Of course!" She grinned as she broke eye contact with him. He was a friendly guy who always made a point of going up to each member to talk to them personally. It was something every employee at the gym did. She loved it there because no one bothered her except for the trainers and the ones who recognized her told themselves that they were seeing things. As soon as fame struck, Breanna had given up her gym in Santa Monica and drove 25 minutes to the gym in Norwalk where no one knew her. Even the personal trainer didn't know who she was. She felt more comfortable working out with people who treated her like she was normal. "So, how's school going?" He asked. "I'm on break. I'm not sure if I want to go back, though." She lied. "Oh, you should. You know what they say...education leads to better jobs which lead to more money!" Breanna smiled to him as she thought about the irony of his statement. "I have millions. I don't need to go to school at the moment." She wanted to say. "Well, I'm going to go mingle with the rest of the members. Hopefully I'll see you more often again." Gil stated as he walked away. "Oh I hope you see *me* more often." Izabel said as she walked up behind Breanna. "Control your hormones, girl!" Breanna teased as she turned off the treadmill. "Hello, Bree? He is *so* hot! How come you never told me about this gym before?" Izabel questioned as they walked towards the locker room to gather their things. Breanna shrugged, "I never noticed he was cute."
Howie arrived home sooner than he thought; traffic that night wasn't as bad is it normally was. He walked into his house and thought about what he was going to do, if he was going to do it at all. He wasn't sure if what he was doing was right or if it would upset Breanna. He didn't want to lose whatever they had left but he was willing to risk it all if it meant he would get everything back to the way it was. He called the airlines after much hesitation and booked a flight later the next morning to LA. After he called he glanced at his watch; 11pm. He sang one of Breanna's songs quietly as he went up to his room to pack his bags.
When Breanna and Izabel got back to her house they were in high spirits. Both girls were laughing and talking about men. "Men are dogs! It's our job to house train them." Izabel replied matter-of-factly as Breanna laughed. "I'm so with you on that one, but I guess Howie was a nice dog. I mean, he was easy to train." Breanna replied as Izabel roared with laughter. "Hold that thought! I need to check my machine." Breanna stated. "Hey Bree! It's your oh-so-sexy brother Lex. I'm going with my girl to the mountains. They are predicting a snow storm tonight so we want to get there before it hits. Call me later! You know my cell number. Love ya!" Breanna looked at Izabel with a concerned face. "They predict snow all over. This has been one of the longest and coldest winters ever. It's like 20 degrees outside." Breanna replied peering out the sliding glass door in her kitchen. "He shouldn't go, it's not safe." She continued to talk, staring out at the ocean. "Then call him and stop him! Tell him to wait until it's safe. Snow storms can come slow or they can come fast." "Kinda like men. You don't know how many inches you're gonna get or when it's gonna come." Izabel laughed as she nodded her head. "So, you gonna call him?" Breanna looked at Izabel for a moment before she picked up the phone.
His flight wasn't scheduled to leave until 5am the next morning but Howie was impatient. He was never one to be impatient but the situation was different. It was almost midnight and he couldn't sleep. He played over what he planned to say to her and what he would do if she said something unexpected. He knew he was going into the situation blind but he was tired of waiting, tired of being patient, of tired of seeing Breanna so distant. She hadn't seen anyone in months and she refused to speak to anyone, well, except for Nick of course. As 1o'clock approached he knew it was frivolous to stay upstairs racking his brain for situations that hadn't even arose yet. He walked sleepily downstairs and plopped down on his couch, grabbing his remote in the process. He channel surfed for a few minutes before the weather channel caught his attention. "LA is going to have a snow storm?" He questioned aloud as he listened to the weather report. He was about to change the channel when he heard a slight tapping on his front door. "AJ, you have a key!" Howie shouted. He listened as he heard the sound of metal clicking together, the door finally opening. "How'd you know it was me?" He asked as he walked into the living room. "Who else would bother to wake me at 1am?" Howie questioned back. "Who else would know you'd *be* awake at 1am." AJ stated. Howie smiled at his friend, pointing at the open seat on the couch. "I don't mind if I do." AJ replied, throwing himself onto the couch. "Man, you're gonna owe me some new furniture if you keep that up." AJ rolled his eyes before focusing his attention on the TV. "Weather Channel? Oh c'mon, D! What the hell is up with that?" AJ said with disappointment in his voice, pointing at the TV. "Nothing. Just seeing what the weather's gonna be like." Howie lied. "Living in Orlando it's basically gonna be sun unless you see a cloud, then it's rain. It's never in between. Next channel..." AJ demanded before he saw the LA report. "Snow in LA? That blows." Howie tried to turn the channel before he saw AJ staring around the living room. "LA report. Luggage on the floor. You wide awake watching the Weather Channel. Hmmm...." AJ replied, trying to put the pieces together. "Vacation?"
Breanna dialed Alexei's number hoping he'd still be awake. "No answer." Breanna told Izabel as she continued to let the phone ring. "Hello?" She heard her brother greet on the other line. "LEX!" Breanna shouted. "Bree? What's wrong? You okay?" He asked hastily. "Lex, I'm fine. Don't worry about me. I was calling to talk about you." She explained. "Okay, what's up?" "Why are you going to the snow? Haven't you heard the weather reports? That snow storm could come while you're driving! It's not safe." Alexei laughed at his sisters concern. "This coming from a person who needs bodyguards all the time." He replied. "Yeah, yeah, but that's different. Bodyguards can help in situations should they arise but you can't control mother nature." She waited quietly for her brothers reaction. "Bree, we'll be fine. This is something I've been planning for months." He stated. "Months? Why months?" Breanna was confused. Why would someone plan a trip to the mountains overlooking LA for months? You planned a vacation abroad for months. You planned a vacation in the mountains for days. "Well, I'm going to ask Amana to marry me. She loves the snow so I planned to ask her at the best cabin I could reserve. I wasn't going to tell you but you're my sister and you would have told me." Breanna was shocked. Her gigolo brother was finally settling down with someone. This was a first. But she assumed it wouldn't be the last. "I'm happy for you but why can't you just do it here? It's supposed to snow, Lex." Breanna urged. She had a bad feeling about what he wanted to do. "Breanna, we'll be fine! Don't argue with me about this. I never argue with you about Howie. You know how I hate when you do this." He stated, his voice filled with frustration. "But Lex, I have a really bad feeling about this. Howie and I are different. That's some I can control. If it starts to storm, you can't control it!" Breanna shouted. In her gut she had a terrible feeling. "Breanna, don't even bother. We're going! Don't argue with me!" He shouted as he hung up the phone.
"Yeah, AJ, I'm going on vacation." Howie replied sarcastically. "Hey man, don't take your frustrations out on me." AJ replied defensively. "Sorry. I'm going to LA to try one last time to fix things. If it works, then fine. If it doesn't, then that's it. That's the final straw. I'm out of her life for good." He replied. AJ did a few quick calculations in his head before turning his attention back to Howie. "Maybe I should go with you. You might need..." "No, I'm going alone. I need to do this alone. If you go and she gets upset with me she'll run to you. If I go alone she has no one to run and hide to." Howie explained stubbornly as he channel surfed. "Man, I hope you're right. Just be ready for the unexpected, k? Cause I know..." "AJ, I'm ready for anything she's gonna throw at me." Howie glanced up at the clock. 1:30 AM. "What time is your flight?" AJ questioned. "7 o'clock, why?" "Hold up, I'll be back." AJ replied, walking towards the stairs. Howie watched him walk up the stairs before turning his attention back to the TV. AJ came back down 10 minutes later with a smile on his face. "What did you do?" Howie asked with a questioning face. AJ leaned over and grabbed one of Howie's bags. "C'mon. Your plane leaves in half an hour." "What!?" Howie asked with a slight laugh. "Don't ask cupid how he does it. Just be glad I used to date any pretty girl in a short skirt." AJ replied as he walked towards the front door. "Man, I'm like the airport shuttle. I'm always taking or picking you and Bree up." AJ complained as Howie shut the front door behind them.
