X-Men Evolution's Hank McCoy

Courtesy of Comics Continuum

Hank McCoy is joining the cast of Kids' WB!'s X-Men: Evolution beginning with this Saturday's episode.

Hank will be an adult in the show.

Story editor Greg Johnson provided The Continuum with the following description of Hank's character in the series:

"Hank possesses a generous heart, a poet's spirit, a genius's intellect, and a pro-wrestler's body. Having graduated Bayville High years ago as a star athlete, Hank has since pursued a career in teaching, and has just recently signed on at Bayville as the new chemistry teacher. But he's also serving as the school's head coach, this double duty allowing him to do what he loves most in the world - work with kids. It fills him with passion. But Hank also fears all of his progress, his dreams, his ambitions, will vanish if ever his desperate secret is revealed."

"Hank is a mutant. His entire life, he's been forced to deal with the fact that he possess keen animal instincts, large powerful hands... and a feral savagery that he's only managed to control through sheer willpower. When he does feel his blood starting to boil, he's able to keep a lid on it by reciting the calming passages of Shakespeare."

Hank's first appearance will be in the "Power Surge" episode.

New X-Men

Issue 118-123

Writer: Grant Morrison

Artist: Normally... Frank Quietly. It changes from comic to comic so who knows.

What's this?  The latest New X-Men series with Beast as his latest incarnation, a big blue lion creature. Simba eat your heart out. ;)

Beast's role: Not much at first. Hank was not seen much and when he was he was just a big, incoherent shaggy blue creature that people call Hank. I know, he had his brains almost turned into scrambled eggs by Cassandra Nova. But they didn't have to do that in the first place and so he shouldn't be a blubbering creature! He did manage to pull himself from his coma and warn the X-Men about Cassandra Nova in Xavier's body, that's something at least. In # 123 he is awake, articulate and on his way to recovery, even back in his beloved lab studying viruses, and recently beaten bad guy technology to help his fellow X-Men. In #124-125 he's back to his semi-normal self, even cracking more jokes and fighting with the best of them. But there are diffrences now in Hank, we'll see if they become more pronounced or not. He did say something which made me sit up and take notice and dearly hope it was just a joke from the writers. Read # 125 and judge for yourself.

Good Hank Quote: Not much at first "Grrr, rumble, blubber" Only in more recent comics has he come out of the coma and is more or less back to his normal self in terms of team relations and the things he says. But now this stuff with Cassandra Nova has given him a complex. He's afraid he's going to de-evolve into a worm, and he's really afraid of Cassandra Nova.

My rating: Art: 7/10  -  Story: 7/10  -  Overall: 6/10  -  Beast's Appearance: 3/10  -  Beast Writing: 7/10

Great, good, bad or ugly: Now that he's woken he's much more articulate, and beginning to spout his one liners, jokes and general good humor. Gettting better but I've still got many bones to pick with Quesada, his artists, his writers and his grand "changes". And the art still leaves a ot to be desired in my book.

X-Men 2 - The Movie

Courtesy of Comics Continuum

Brian Cox will play Stryker, the lead villain, in the X-Men sequel, which has begun production in the Vancouver area. Cox, 56, is a veteran of more than 40 films and is currently featured in The Bourne Identity. He also starred as Hannibal Lecter in the 1986 film Manhunter, below. Fox describes Stryker as a former Army commander who holds the key to Wolverine's past - as well as the future of the X-Men.

The studio also described Kelly Hu's role as Stryker's assistant, Yuriko Oyama, who has her own surprises for the heroic team. The character's name would be consistent with Hu's recent description of the character as Lady Deathstrike. Fox also noted that Shawn Ashmore is returning as Bobby Drake (Iceman) and Aaron Stanford's Pyro will be John Allerdyce. The studio said the young mutants will be called "the X-Kids."

Although writing credits are not final, the studio lists the screenplay being written by David Hayter and Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris, based on a story by returning director Bryan Singer and Hayter.

Returning actors listed by Fox include Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Bruce Davison, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and Anna Paquin. Alan Cumming is the newest addition, playing Nightcrawler.

The studio is also listing Tom DeSanto as a returning executive producer

X-Men 2 - Beast Confirmed

Courtesy of Counting Down

According to a very trustworthy X2 source: "Beast does have a cameo. It's a small part but he's going to look great and maybe we'll see more of him in the 3rd installment."

In other X2 news, three cameos remain uncast: Colossus, Jubilee and Siren.
