News BPW members continue to mourn the loss of Carolyn Lamb who died on March 25, 2003 after being diagnosed earlier in the month with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a rare, degenerative, fatal brain disease. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 44 years, Charles Lamb; her mother, Constance Craig; two sisters, Nancy Mendoza and Mary Tomlinson; and a brother, William Craig III. Carolyn was a past state president of the Maryland Federation of Business and Professional Women and until the time of her death served as BPW/md Resident Agent and SMd BPW Bylaws Chair. Carolyn will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memorial contributions may be sent to BPW/USA Foundation, 1900 M Street, NW, Suite 310, Washington, DC 20036. Congratulations to Doris Ecelbarger who was appointed as Chair of the Board of Elections for the City of Rockville. Thank you to renewing member Alma Matheson for her continued support. Alma, a retired medical technician, now lives in Boonsboro, Maryland. She is one of the founding members of Kensington BPW. Members of BPW/md will again join BPW members from Virginia and Washington, DC to form a BPW team for the National Race for the Cure on Saturday, June 7, 2003. Aileen Worrell will be co-captain with Susan Dax of BPW/VA as captain for the Race. This is a great opportunity to raise money for breast cancer research, increase publicity for BPW, and spend a fun morning walking with fellow business and professional women. We need 25 people total from Maryland, Virginia, and DC to form a team. The Race (for walkers) begins at 9:00 a.m., runners at 8:30 a.m. The route is five kilometers or approximately three miles. You can register for the Race by mail, online, or in-person. The registration fee is $25. In-person registration will be available at Hecht’s at Lakeforest Mall and Montgomery Mall on May 17-18, from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. both days. To register online or for more information, visit www.nationalraceforthecure.org, or contact Aileen Worrell at [email protected]. When registering for the Race, please remember to fill in the letters “BPW” in the team code boxes on your registration form so you are included in the official count for the team. The Business & Professional Women’s Foundation of Maryland (BPWF/md) will hold their annual auction fundraiser to benefit the scholarship program during state conference. This year’s auction will be held on May 2, 2003. Donations are being requested from each local organization in Maryland. If you have an item you would like to donate, please contact BPWF/md Fundraiser Chair Gloria Gaddis at [email protected] by April 20, 2003. |
