Emmett and Ida spent four years in Flint, Mich., and 15 years at Mattoon, Ill. and lived there until Ida's death, Sept. 25, 1945. He then made his home with his eldest son Charles, until his death, Nov. 23, 1948. They are buried in the Greenup Cemetary. Ida was a charter member of the U.B. church Mattoon, Ill. He operated a hardware business in Greenup from 1912 to 1923 Emmet and Ida spent 4 years in Flint, Mich and 15 in Mattoon Ill they returned to Casey in 1944. After Ida's death he lived with eldest son Charles. William Emmet is the name he used as he for some reason did not like to use his birth name of Emmet Pleasant. [UL: Obit of William Emmet Have:UL]ns William Emmet Havens, son of Lewis and Mary Vesta Havens was born south of Greenup, Ill., Jan 1, 1871 and passed away at the home of his son Charles on November 23, 1948 where he has made his home since the departure of his wife on Sept. 25, 1945. He was married to Ida Ormsby Aug 16, 1891 and to this union three children were born: Charles, Ralhp and Retta. He grew to manhood and spent most of his life in and aroung Greenup, except a few years in Flint, Mich. and Mattoon, Illinois. He was in the hardware business in Greenup for several years and was engaged in farming for a number of years. He has been in failing health for years, the last 20 months confined to his bed. He bore his suffering with patience, never complaining. Everything was done for him that loving hands could do. He was amember of the Atalanta Lodge no. 116 I.O.O.F. at Greenup for 40 years or more. He leaves to mourn his loss, two sons, Charles of Greenup, Ralph of Casey and one daughter, Mrs. Retta (Ralph) Sharp of Casey: six grand-daughters, two grandsons, six great-grandchildren, two brothers, Elisha and Eli Havens and one nephew and neice. Wife's Notes[UL: Obit of Ida Mae Ormsb:UL]y Mrs. Ida Havens- wife of W.E. Havens-succumbed at 2:45 o'clock this morning at the family home on Opal St., in this city. The 73-old lady became ill late Sunday evening, suffering a stroke, from which she never recovered. The body was taken to Bishop Funeral Home in Greenup, but later returned to the Havens home in Casey. The deceased was born in Cumberland County, the daughter of the late Charles and Sarah Ormsby. A year ago, she and Mr. Havens moved to Casey from Mattoon, where they have since resided. Surviving to mourn their loss besides the bereaved husband is one daughter, Mrs. Ralph E. Sharp of Casey; two sons, Ralph of Casey, and Charles Havens of Greenup; eight grandchildren, one- Ralph E. Sharp, Jr., being overseas; four great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Rites will be conducted at two o'clock Thursday afternoon from the United Brethern church in Casey, with the pastor, Dr. Oral F. Landis, officiating. Internment will be at Greenup.
Notes for Child: Velma Loretta "Retta" Havens[UL: Obituary For Velma Loretta Havens:UL] Mrs. Ralph (Retta) Sharp 48, passed away at the family home five miles southwest of Casey last night at 11:40 after suffering with a lingering illness the past year. She was the daughter of the late W.E. and Ida Mae Ormsby Havens and was born in Union Township, Greenup and had always resided in this community. On August 3,1919 she was united in marriage in Greenup to Ralph E. Sharp. Until overtaken by illness, she was active in Washington E.U.B church, also Areta Chapter #79, O.E.S. and Messiah White Shrine, both of Casey. She is survived by the husband and three children: Mrs. Robert J. (Marjorie) Warren, Lawrenceville; Linda Ann at home, and one son Ralph E. Jr., student at the University of Illinois, Champaign. Three grandchildren survive- Robert Earl, Phillip and John Warren, Lawrenceville. She also leaves two brothers- Ralph Havens, near Casey, and Charles residing at Greenup. Funeral servives will be held at Washington Church Sunday, 2:30 p.m., with burial in Washinton cemetary. Rev. Oral F. Landis, Decatur, former E.U.B. pastor, will officiate. Lindsey funeral home is in charge of arrangements and the body will remain at the funeral home until the hour of service. FROM THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY HISTORY HAVENS, VELMA LURETTA "RETTA" was born in Cumberland County Ill.Oct 1, 1902, daughter of Emmett and Ida Mae (Ormsby) Havens. She grew up in and near Greenup, and attented Greenup public schools. On Aug 3, 1919 she married Ralph E. Sharp. They had three children: Marjorie, Ralph Jr. and Linda Ann. They spent some time in Flint Michigan, Cumberland and Clark Counties Ill. She was a member of the Washington Evangalical U.B. Church. She died March 1, 1951 and is buried in the Washington Cemetary.
Notes for Child: Charles Lewis Havens[UL: FROM THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY HISTOR:UL]Y HAVENS, CHARLES LEWIS, was the eldest son of Emmett and Ida Mae (Ormsby) Havens. He was born on Dec 25 1892 east of Greenup, Ill. He attended school at the Brushy Ridge Grade School and at the Greenup Public School. At the age of 18, he moved on a farm east of Greenup and started farming and raising livestock. On the 22th of Dec., 1912 he married Grace Louisa Miller, She was born March 6, 1895 a daughter of John and Dora Miller. She was raised in Clark and Cumberland Counties except two years spent in Huntington ,Tenn. with her parents and family. Grace and Charles spent four years in Flint, Mich., three years in Traer, Iowa, and three years in Mattoon, Ill. In 1930 they came back to Greenup and settled on a farm east of Greenup. They had 3 children: Charles Wendell born Aug 7, 1914 and died Oct. 1927, Raymond Keith born Aug 9, 1916. He spent one year in Military Training during W.W II and Martha Phyliss born Aug 19, 1932, all in Cumberland Co., Ill. Charles died Jan 10, 1960 and Keith and Grace now reside in Greenup. They are both members of the First Christian Church in Greenup, Ill.

He was raised in and near Greenup and attended school in Greenup, graduating from High School here in 1917. He married Jesse Strater Oct 7, 1918 and settled near Greenup. They have spent some time in Flint, Mich. and Traer, Iowa after which they returned to Cumberland Co. They had three children: Dorothy, Gleneva, and Betty. They have lived on a farm in Cumberland and Clark Coes. since 1930, after returning from Flint, Mich. They now reside south of Casey, Ill.![]()
