Chris Kattan Cool Biography

DATE OF BIRTH: October 19, 1970. Kattan is 34 yrs old. He's a libra.

PLACE OF BIRTH: Native of Southern California, although Kattan spent part of his youth in Seatle and returned to Los Angeles area for university.

UNIVERSITY: Kattan attended the University of California at Northridge and studied acting and directing. He also appeared in many live theatre productions.

CURRENT RESIDENCE: Kattan lives both in New York City and Los Angeles.

Before Kattan joined SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, he was a member of the Los Angeles based improv/sketch comedy group THE GROUNDLINGS. His father was also a member of this group. Former SNL cast members Will Ferrell, Ana Gasteyer and Cheri Oteri, the late Phil Hartman and Jon Lovitz also began their careers there.

In 1996 Kattan joined SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. He has created many incredibly funny characters since he started. His most popular were:

  • MANGO - the exotic dancer
  • MR. PEEPERS - the half-man/half-monkey
  • AZRAEL ABYSS - the costar of Goth Talk (with Molly Shannon as Circy Nightshade)
  • SUEL FORRESTER - the gibberish guy
  • DOUG BUTABI - one of the Roxbury guys (with Will Ferrel as Steve Butabi - his brother)
  • KIPPY STRUG - Kerri Strug's brother

Kattan has also contributed notable impressions of:

  • BILL GATES
  • AL PACINO
  • ANTONIO BANDERAS in the "How do you say...ah yes Show"
  • SCARY SPICE in SNL's 10-second "Spice Skits"
  • BEN AFFLECK
  • ANDY DICK
  • DAVID SPADE
  • GERALDO RIVERA

One of my most favorite characters is the Roxbury Guy (Doug Butabi) who's just a masterpiece of Kattan's work. Even though the Butabi brothers are just plain dumb and crazy that's the funniest part of it all.

I think Chris Kattan is not just one of the funny guys, but he also cares about his work very much and you can see that in all his sketches. He had a great chemistry with all the cast members and he can easily slip into any given part. At one point he can be the unconventional half-man/half-monkey and then he can transform to another character like a lawyer or a gibberish teacher. His presence is always noticed. In a few '98 episodes, he and Cheri Oteri paired up to play a sex-crazed couple and those sketches were so incredibly funny you just have to see them!

Chris Kattan has also guest starred on several network television programs, including NEWSRADIO and GRACE UNDER FIRE and he has been in a few movies:
