Date Rape Drugs (by Angela, PAVE Founder)

Date Rape: being subjected to unwanted sexual intercourse, oral sex, anal sex, or other sexual contact through the use of force or threat of force.

In recent years, the use of drugs has been commonly used to aid in date rape. Many of these drugs are tasteless, colorless, and odorless. They can be slipped easily into your drink as soon as you are not looking. The consumption of these drugs can remain completely undetected to until you wake up in a strange place hours later.

It is very important to keep your drink with you at all times at a party or a bar. If you are going to the bathroom, take it with you. It only takes a few moments for someone to slip one in your drink. It sounds scary, but the threat is very real. I have heard firsthand of many young girls who were at a party with their friends one minute, and the next minute they awoke to find themselves in an unfamiliar place with their clothes disheveled. They scariest part was, they could not remember how they got there or events that had taken place.

Please, make it a point to keep your drink with you at all times. Also, do not accept an open or mixed drink from anyone. It is also a good idea to stay alert and use the buddy system.

The most common date rape drugs are:

 Rohypnol

 GHB

 Ketamine
