Learned that McCollister and De France pictures from estate of
Jim and Eva (Atcher) McCollister were in a trunk which was then
given to Eva's brother Waldo. Waldo then gave the trunk to Earl,
his brother, who left it in the barn and due to the elements of
weather all the pictures still left in the trunk were destroyed.
Dean and I went to the home of Beatrice McCollister to look for
pictures. She did not have any pictures and called her
sister-in-law Ruth McCollister. Ruth said she didn't have any
pictures either. Beatrice looked at the pictures I got the year
before in Iowa Falls at the antique store. She thought that the
picture that I believe to be Samuel Duffy De France, did indeed
look familiar and thought that it was him. She also remembered
Jim McCollister talking about an Indian marrying a white girl.
(the antique store had a picture of an Indian and white girl
married, marked Uncle John and Aunt Mary Weaver).
Both Ruth and Beatrice believed that Mardell McCollister had her
pick of pictures from the trunk before the trunk was passed on to
the Atchers. Mardell is a sister to the McCollister brothers. My
mother, Bertha, talked to Mardell before my arrival in July, and
Mardelle believed that Beatrice was holding onto all the
pictures, and that she herself does not have any. There seemed to
be many hard feelings between the sisters-in-laws, perhaps
associated with these pics, and perhaps not. Mac McCollister has
let it be known he has no interest in any pictures or any
information about geneology. Parents: .
