Highlights of LCCB’s 21 Seasons

 

The LCCB celebrates its 21st anniversary in 2007. This page chronicles the more notable events in the Band's history, year by year, since its foundation. For a detailed version of our history click here.

1986 Band formed in July, first public performance at “Fringe at the Seaside”, August. Regular rehearsals followed.
1987 Band appeared for first time for Norwegian Constitution Day – and has done so every year since!
1988 30 Concerts and 10 Parade appearances at the Glasgow Garden Festival. Concert in Princes Street Gardens.
1989 First appearance in the Festival Cavalcade.
1990 First appearance in the Festival Cavalcade.
1992 June; BBC World Service broadcast. July; Tour in North Rhine–Westphalia. Involved in the “Keep Our Scottish Battalions” (KOSB) campaign (launch in Leith, parade to take Petition to Waverley en route to London).
1993 First visit to Ypres to participate in the Remembrance ceremonies. December; “KOSB” Campaign demonstration during European Summit Conference.
1994 First appearance in new dress uniforms at Concert in Princes Street Gardens.
1995 Concert programmes and Parade for “Tall Ships” events, July.
1996 Band played for the Royal opening of the new Scottish Office (now the Scottish Executive), 1 July, combined with South Queensferry Caledonian Pipe Band.
1997 First Retreat Beating with St. Thomas’-Junction Road BB Pipe Band at the Piazza on the Shore, June. Festival Cavalcade with the South Queensferry Caledonian Pipe Band .
1998 Norwegian Constitution Day Parade with Greenock “Steadfast” BB Brass Band and massed BB Pipes and Drums.
1999 Festival Cavalcade massed with Broxburn Silver Band. Band returned to Ypres, this time with the Pipes and Drums of St. Thomas’ Church. Last Band to play at the final 11.11 Last Post Ceremony of the 20th Century.
2000 Played as Mess Band for RAF Leuchars Officers’ Mess, and in Great Hall of Stirling Castle for 49 Squadron Reunion. Only Band to have played at the last 11.11 Last Post Ceremony of the 20th Century and the first of the 21st!.Filmed by Belgian Public Service TV when marching through Poperinge.
2001 Festival Cavalcade massed with Rosyth Concert Band.
2002 Massed Bands Concert with Rosyth Concert, Buglers, Pipes and Drums in St. Mary’s Cathedral for 25th Anniversary of IMMS. First annual Leith Mini-Tattoo. Concerts in Recklinghausen and Lippe with the Wehrbereich 2 Musikkorps (Münster), the Royal Scanian Dragoons (Swedish TA) and the Royal Lancers Bands plus the St. Thomas’ Pipes and Drums.
2003 Festival of the Sea appearances, Scottish–American Memorial Day, Princes Street Gardens, Massed Bands for Cavalcade with the Baden-Lichtental and Rosyth Bands. St. Maarten’s Day Parade, Ypres.
2004 Mini-Tattoo was the Capital’s D-Day commemoration. Joined for Cavalcade by Rosyth and the Band from the Hilversum Police, Holland.
2005 Shoppers’ Concert in Ocean Terminal for Tsunami Funds. Opened the Miles Baster Memorial Concert at St. Andrew’s and St. George’s Church
2006 Concerts in St. Andrew’s and St. George’s Church and St. Giles’ Cathedral.
