Chapter III. Less than a god, yet More than a Man

It was a cold blistering night in the forest of Toxxullia. It is a rare occasion when snow falls there, but this night in the month of February it fell to cover the ground, as well as helping to conceal the approach of a dark traveler. It was here that the Avatar of Cazic-Thule had completed his journey from the muck filled marshlands of Innathule Swamp on his Deity driven quest. The might Lord of Fear sent his Avatar to the city of Paineel, to where many of his followers gathered. At Paineel it was the Avatar's quest to deliver a very small but incredibly valuable package. The Avatar in the darkness of this snow filled night, walked boldly into the Temple of the Fell Blade Knights. The guards seemed not even to notice his presence as he strolled up to the Leader of the Fell Blade. The Avatar presented a vial of the blood of Cazic-Thule to the leader of the knights, with instructions to assist in the birthing of new knights. Pallidmortis was the first of these knights to be infused with the blood of his master. Some years later once old enough, Pallidmortis trained as a Fell Blade Knight, but he soon found himself outdistancing the other trainees.

It was at this time that Pallidmortis first came into contact with Gallius of the Gatecallers, the Arbitrator of a new Erudite brotherhood called the High Keepers of Odus. He joined this brotherhood and quickly became among its most powerful members. It soon came to him that the High Keepers of Odus could be the means for achieving something greater. He knew not what, but the blood of the Lord of Fear told him it was something he must do.
