Chapter IV. The High Council of Odus

GALLIUS OF THE GATECALLERS returned to Odus with his newly commissioned guild, the High Keepers of Odus. To reunite the Erudite race was a lofty goal and Gallius realised it would take time to accomplish. After some contemplation, he concluded that the best way to begin the long journey would be to establish communication between Erudin and Paineel. He did this by establishing the High Council of Odus, a group of Erudites representing both cities, in hopes that this group would open the minds of their brethren. From Erudin, he chose two young wizards: Ishtarrak the Warrens Bane and Jensara the Wise. Gallius was awestricken by the combat skills of the seasoned Shadow Knight, Pallidmortis, and chose him along with a necromancer called Syscrusher to represent Paineel.

The High Keepers of Odus began its journey by finding points in common. After sweeping through the Warrens, home of Klan Kobolk, the High Council met for the first time.

I would like to thank everyone for joining me here tonight, Gallius began, There are a number of issues about which I would like to discuss. Let us begin with our next event- it must serve to unite us over a point of common interest, as this night has.

Kerra Ridge, suggested Syscrusher, may be a problem we share. The prisoners to the Kobolds we saw should not have been on the mainland to begin with.

This may be so, ventured Ishtarrak the Warrens Bane, but is our guild powerful enough to discipline such a society as the Kerrans?

There was silence for a moment before Jensara the Wise spoke.

As a bucket is filled from every single drop, so is our greatness made so by every one of us. Let the strong protect the weak as we battle our foes.

Agreed, said Gallius, Pallidmortis, what do you think?

Pallidmortis looked up at Gallius, who could not help but shudder from the look.

I am but a simple soldier, he began, slow to speak but quick to act. The choice is to the Council.

The Council agreed. At that meeting it was also unanimously decided that the High Keepers of Odus was to be an Erudite-only affiliation and the guild doctrine was established. The meeting was about to adjourn when Pallidmortis spoke again.

There is one more matter of which I have just thought.

Gallius raised an eyebrow inquiringly.

It has long been unclear to me, Pallidmortis continued, but the Lord of Fear has made it so. Our guild, if only Erudites, is incomplete.

Why did you say nothing before our decision? asked Ishtarrak.

There is no doubt in my mind that the admission of non-Erudites into the High Keepers of Odus is out of the question; however, said Pallidmortis with a slight grin, if we were to create an Army of Odus to protect us while we continue to develop our skills and talents and minds

Pallidmortis request was considered and ratified. A new organisation would be created, the High Soldiers of Odus, to serve the Erudite people and protect the lands of Odus.
