The trauma of the Civil War lay heavily on all the citizens of Erudin, and as word spread that the heretics had not been destroyed, the climate became tense. For some time, Erudin lost its grandeur. Many Erudites wanted to make a grand incursion to the southern terra incognita and wipe out the heretics forever. It was around this time that Gallius joined the Erudin magician's guild, called the Gatecallers. Its leader was Markus Jaevins, an old man who had known Erud and led the High Council of Erudin. Gallius of the Gatecallers learned eagerly, but resisted the indoctrination his guildmasters laid upon him that all the heretics had forsaken their identity as Erudites and did not deserve to live. He had known several heretics and could not believe such things, for witnessing the slaying of his kin by his kin had taken too heavy a toll on his heart. Days of a cold war between the North and the South turned to years, and years to decades. When Gallius' training was more advanced and he had attained the position of apprentice to Markus Jaevins, he became involved in the politics between Erudin after the discovery of New Paineel, which the heretics had rebuilt to the south. An invasion was being discussed which caused Gallius to leave his apprenticeship in protest. The invasion was halted, but Gallius decided that it would be necessary to create an organisation to promote amnesty for the Heretics to the High Council. His plans for the Brotherhood of Erud were taken lightly, and the High Council of Erudin refused to officially charter the organisation.
Gallius of the Gatecallers took his plans across the seas in search of a government that would officially charter his Brotherhood of Erud. He would need a group of people pleasant enough to consider his request yet foolish enough to grant it apart from any of their own interests. The Elves, of course. The organisation was established through a grant from the Wood Elves of Kelethin and its name was changed. Gallius returned to Odus as the first Arbitrator of the High Keepers of Odus.
