Many activities take place behind the scenes. You don't know about them.
This fact should affect your vote in the next election.
Let's postulate some guidelines and show how they relate to our lives:
There are two upshots to this lack of knowledge:
So, go ahead and vote. It's your democratic right. But your vote will not reflect a reasonable amount of correct knowledge about current affairs. It will be based on the media. Some aspectts of your "knowledge" will be irrelevant to the Truth or to reality.
Those are very serious accusations. You thought you were reasonably intelligent, and that you could distinguish between right and wrong. Are these seemingly outlandish accusations justified?
Well, lets take an example.
Israeli citizens were upset by a violent and bloody Arab uprising, and one leftist prime minister was trounced by a very large majority. The citizens wanted a forceful rightist to bring about peace.
Did they make a wise decision? No. They voted for a supposedly tough rightist government, but they discovered that it was weaker than its predecessor.
What went wrong?
We really don't know what happened behind the scenes, but we can invent a scenario. Although the following story bears no connection with reality, we present it for two reasons:
Let us say that the prime minister mentioned above could have been a good prime minister. Don't get upset by this assumption it's presented just for the sake of our scenario.
In our scenario, the prime minister was secretly pressured by the leader of another country to use restraint in dealing with the Palestinians. Perhaps he had received secret information indicating that Arab insurgents wanted to foment a world war. Although he realized that his restraint would cost the lives of a number of Israelis, he felt that he could not act, because it would lead to a larger crisis. His "weakness" was really a show of fine leadership.
As another scenario, let's say that the prime minister and the head of another state came to a secret arrangement. Again, the other party convinced the Israeli Prime Minister to use restraint, in return for which the former would pressure the Arabs to limit (but not terminate) their uprising. They may have even agreed to a certain number of suicide bombers with a predetermined quota of casualties. On the other hand, Israel was told that if it did bring in the army to put down the uprising, then the Western world would gather their forces and demolish the Jewish state.
Continuing our scenario, the prime minister sacrificed his political career and reputation in order to save his country. He was persuaded to prevent an exacerbation of the situation on a world scale. Clearly, in our scenario, the prime minister was not weak, as we had believed. He went down in defeat, shame, and embarrassment despite his great statesmanship. He temporarily removed himself from politics because he secretly chose to save his beloved country.
Well, that skepticism on your face shines right through your computer monitor. You don't believe this scenario, do you?
That means that you need a bit more convincing. Fine.
That prime minister was followed by intensely strong right-wing leader. Perhaps not surprisingly, he followed his prececessor's leftist policy and then some. He made a 180 reversal of his lifelong policies after taking office.
What was going on secretly, behind the scenes? Nobody really knows.
And that's precisely the point!
