The United States boasts about the ingathering of populations from many other countries. It welcomes an unabated flow of people who come to enjoy its wealth and seemingly endless opportunity: "Give us your tired, your poor," announces the Statue of Liberty.
Of course, the American dream has no room for people who look tired or admit to poverty. Therefore, that expression must relate to the voluntary Yerida of some poor, tired Israelis, on their way to making their fortune.
That's right - the migration goes both ways. Many American Jews make their way to Israel, while some less-successful Israelis seek their fortune in the States or in other Western countries.
Jews are not the only ones who have moved from the land of bilking money. During the Viet Nam war, Canada became a haven for draft-dodgers. That limited emigration from the United States lasted for a specific and explainable amount of time. Some chose to return at a later stage, while others remained in their new home.
On the other hand, the sustained exodus from the United States to Israel does require an explanation. It has continued despite Israel's worrisome security and financial situations.
Let's sum up these unbelievable criteria:
No other group in history can match those circumstances.
What could possibly attract these people to seek their future in Israel? Why do some Jews choose to leave their attractive homeland? Doesn't America offer its Jewish population everything that it could possibly want?
This website presents some phenomenal reasons for the phenomenon.
