Know What You Want
Before you start looking through information, be as specific as possible on what
kind of information you want. You may find all sorts of information when you start digging
around, but a lot of it won't work towards your goal, so it's very important to know what
to keep and what to ignore.Ask

Many anti-sweat organizations or independant sources do in-depth sweatshop research
on a regular basis. Before digging in, ask them if they've found any of the information
that you're looking for. A list of organizations can be found here:

Research the Information
When you find an interesting piece of information, find out where it came
from. This might mean you need to ask the author of the piece, look in the bibliography,
or e-mail the website you found it on. Trace the information as far back as you can. This
is always a good idea to make sure that it is reliable info, and not just a rumor.
Cite Your Sources
When you come across a piece of info you find relevant to your search, be sure to
write it down and note the name/author/issue/date of the publication where you found the
information. Later on, if someone asks you where your info came from, you'll be able to
tell them, and if you ever doubt your information you can go back and find out more. Also
remember to keep a list (whether on your "favorites list," another place on your
computer, or on paper) of the sources (publication titles, authors and web addresses) you
used so you can find them later on. |
