Does this Company Produce in Sweatshops?
(return to Sweatshop Research Guide)

Chances are, if the company is a big one, it probably does. Using sweatshop labor is much cheaper than paying employees minimum or above minimum wage to produce garments. However, if you just want to make sure, or are interested taking action against a particular company, it's always a good idea to get some background information first. Here's how:

How to get information on the sweatshops a particular company uses:

1. Use Global Amen's Company Profiles

I've been doing a lot of research myself, particularly in the area of the garment industry. You might want to check here first to see if I've researched the company you're interested in already.

2. Use a Search Engine

Type in the company's name and the word "sweatshop" or "factory" or "wages" or "lawsuit" and you might be amazed at what you can find. Here are some search engines I like:
Google
C4
AllTheWeb

3. Look on other Anti-Sweatshop Sites

Anti-sweatshop organizations usually have a fair amount of info on companies that produce in sweatshops. You can do a search for anti-sweat organizations, but you might want to try Global Amen's Research Links first.

4. Look through News Articles

There are quite a few newspapers whose contents are available online. There are often archived articles from past years too! Alternative news sources are generally more helpful, but you may find some info in mainstream sources as well.
