
11/4/02: This semester, the Ballroom Dance Club meets every Monday at 8:30 p.m. in the Oak Room. See you there! 6/16/02: Well, this year's ridiculously successful and fun season is over, but continue to sharpen your skills over the summer by practicing with friends and taking lessons, and then look for us next year at the Activities Fair to sign up and hear about the information meeting. Enjoy your break and see you next year! 3/14/02: This weekend, the competition team competed at the MIT Open Ballroom Dance Competition in Boston. Maddie, Brianne, Lisa, Dave, and Rob G. all danced wonderfully in a total of eight American Smooth and Rhythm events. Brianne and Rob G. placed third in Newcomer Swing, and Lisa and Dave were quarter-finalists in Bronze Cha Cha and Rumba! Congratulations everyone! At tomorrow's meeting we will hold elections for new officers for next year. If you have last minute nominations or want to vote but can't make the meeting, please E-mail Us. We will also review steps learned throughout the year and learn some fun new steps, as well. 4/1/02: This weekend, the competition team competed at the First Annual UMass Ballroom Competition and did very well. Dave & Lisa were quarter-finalists in Bronze Tango and also competed in Bronze Foxtrot, Swing, and Cha Cha; Rob G. & Karima were quarter-finalists in Bronze Swing; and Rob G. & Maddie competed very well in Newcomer Swing. Congratulations to all the competitors. There will be no Ballroom Dance Club meeting tonight due to the Easter Break, but the competition team will have a meeting tonight at 8:40pm with Mike. Mike will teach samba at the next Ballroom Dance Club meeting on April 8. Be sure to attend the Murder Mystery Dance sponsered by our club this Friday, April 5. Tickets can be purchased tomorrow in the campus center. 3/13/02: This week the Ballroom Dance Club learned Rumba from Mike. If anyone is interested in sitting at the Ballroom Dance Club booth from around 11-3 at the Open House on April 13 to recruit freshmen, please e-mail us. Also, let us know if you can go to watch Mike, Yach, and other Arthur Murray dancers compete in Mystic next Friday. A car pool will be set up as soon as we know who will be going, and will leave at 8pm. 2/17/02: This weekend the competition team traveled to Boston to attend the Harvard Invitational Ballroom Dance Competition. Two couples competed and did incredibly well. Dave and Lisa were quarter-finalists in Bronze (second level) Swing. Rob G. and Brianne gave a great showing in Newcomer Swing. Team members also got to attend the 11th Annual Hanlon-Ford Winter Ball that included performances by World Professional Latin Dance Finalists, North American and Canadian Standard Ballroom Champions, and Blackpool Theater Arts Finalists/U.S. Hustle Champions. There will be no ballroom dance club or team meetings this week since there will be no school on Monday. 1/28/02: Our first meeting of the Spring semester was held at the Barone Campus Center at 8:30pm. This informational meeting covered our upcoming Murder Mystery Dance, as well as some other orders of business. We also elected Dave as our new Vice President and Karima as our new Secretary for this semester. This semester the Ballroom Dance Club will meet every Monday from 8:30-9:45 in the Multipurpose Room of the Recreational Complex, and Michael from Arthur Murray's Dance Studio will teach at every meeting. 12/1/01: CONGRATULATIONS to Lisa & Dave and Jill & Rob who competed in Bronze Tango and Newcomer Swing at the Yale Tournament this morning. BOTH couples were quarter-finalists in Swing! Great job everyone!! Club and Team will meet Monday as usual. 11/19/01: There will be no Ballroom Dance Club meeting tonight, but the Competition Team will be meeting from 8:30-9:30 to practice Swing. 11/8/01: The Competition Team will be meeting in Apartment 304 this Sunday at 6pm to watch tapes of previous competitions and a dance-related movie. Yes, there will be food. On Monday night's meeting Michael from Arthur Murray Dance Studio will teach Swing. Arthur Murray Dance Studio's November Calendar is now posted on the Links page. If you need a ride or can offer a ride to others, please e-mail [email protected]. 10/27/01: The Ballroom Dance Club is sponsoring Fairfield University's Halloween Dance this year. It will be tonight at 9pm in the Rec Plex next to the Haunted House. Be sure to come in costume because we will be giving great prizes (including hundreds of dollars in gift certificates and movie tickets, as well as a DVD/CD player) to the best individual costumes, couple costumes, group costumes, and performing costumes. Also, be sure to come to Monday's meeting since Michael from Arthur Murray's will be there to teach us salsa and other sizzling dances. Have a great weekend! 10/15/01: Tonight's meeting with Michael went great! We all learned way cool tango moves. Competition team got off to a great start. Please feel free to e-mail us if you are still interested since we are not forming partnerships until next week's meeting. If anybody would like a ride to the beginner's Rumba/Cha-Cha class, or any class for that matter, at Arthur Murray's on Wednesday at 7:45, e-mail us. 10/11/01: Be sure to come to the meeting on Monday Oct. 15 since it will be the first time that Michael from Arthur Murray's Dance Studio will instruct the meeting. We'll learn a lot and have a ridiculously good time. Plus, Michael is giving special discounts for Arthur Murray classes to all members of the club. Come to Monday's meeting to find out more. Also, for all those interested in Competition Team, please come to the first Competition Team meeting from 9:30-10:30, just after club. You don't have to commit yet, but we want to get to know you and your skill level and start practicing. 10/4/01: Even though there will not be classes on Monday, October 8, we will still hold a Ballroom Dance Club meeting in case anybody feels like dancing. If you are interested in joining the Competition Team, please e-mail us at [email protected]. The Competition Team will meet for an hour every Monday at 9:30 after the club meeting. 9/27/01: Thank you to those of you who volunteered to help recruit prospective freshmen at the Preview Day Academic & Student Life Fair! Also, for all of those interested in joining the Competition Team, be sure to come to next Mondays meeting from 8:30-9:30, and then stay a little while longer for a brief informational chat session and a bit of practicing. 9/23/01: Our next meeting is on Monday, September 24 from 8:30-9:30pm in the Multipurpose Room in the Rec Plex. We will be learning some more fun dances, and best of all, we'll also be celebrating Rob's birthday. We'll also talk with all of you who are interested in joining the competition team about when we will start meeting. Plus, we'll be asking for volunteers to help at our booth at the Academic & Student Life Fair on Preview Day which is on Sunday, September 30. We will need people between 10 and 3 p.m. You get free lunch for volunteering, so think about it. We can't wait to see you tomorrow! 9/18/01: Our first meeting went very well, with everybody getting to know each other and learning some basic steps of swing, salsa, and merengue. We discussed ideas for future events, such as a salsa dance party/concert at the Quick Center, a campus-wide Halloween dance event, and a trip to see the Broadway show "Swing!" If you have any ideas please e-mail them to us. We will begin meeting regularly on Mondays from 8:30-9:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room in the Rec Plex. Hope to see you there! 9/16/01:
