Chloe wakes up to find Philip lying next to her and thinks she must be dreaming. She pinches herself then realizes she�s definitely not dreaming because that pinch she just gave herself hurt. He�s lying there peacefully sleeping with one arm behind her head and his other hand holding hers.

She can�t believe how good this feels and how good he smells. She watches him sleep then moves a little strand of hair that seems to have fallen onto his forehead back into place. While she studies every inch of his beautiful face she�s thinking: My God! He�s just so�just so perfect and�and handsome and just�just beautiful�.

She gently runs her finger across his cheek then he starts to stir and her heart starts beating faster at the thought of him waking up and being this close to her and�and having him look into her eyes with those amazing blue eyes of his. She knows that once she looks into them she won�t be able to tear herself away. It�s like she goes into this trance and they�re in their own little world where it�s just the two of them together and she feels so free�free of all of the pain she feels inside�.

He wakes up to see those same amazing and unique blue eyes looking at him. He smiles then says, �How are you feeling this morning beautiful�? She softly says, �I�umm�I feel much better. But I..I need to get out of here. I�m not gonna be able to pay the Hospital bill if I stay any longer�. Philip starts to speak and Dr. Tanaka and Susan, an RN walk into the room.

He says, �Well you two, I hear you slept through the night very peacefully. You look like you�re feeling better Miss�he looks at her chart to see that her name hasn�t been written on it so he says, �Can you tell me what your name is�? Chloe says, �Chloe�Chloe Lane�. He says, �Well Chloe, I overheard what you just said and I need to examine you and if everything looks good I�ll grant you that wish. I�ll let you out of here within the hour�.

Chloe smiles then pushes the button to make the bed go from a lying position to a sitting one. Philip gently takes his arm from behind her neck and is still holding her hand and says, �Do you want me to go�? Dr. Tanaka says, �You�re fine right where you are Philip until Susan removes the IV and catheter needle�.

So he says, �What about you Chloe�? She gently squeezes his hand and says, �Please�I�I�d like you to stay right where you are if it�s not too much to ask�. He smiles then gently squeezes her hand as Dr. Tanaka flashes the light into her eyes then looks at the back of her head.

He smiles then says, �Well Chloe, everything looks really good and I think you�ve made a full recovery and I�m going to discharge you now. But you have to promise me one thing�. Chloe says, �And what�s that�? He takes his pen in hand then writes a name down on the chart as he�s talking to Chloe.

He says, �I need you to see Dr. Sandra Walker at 2220 Front Street in Lahaina in 2 days. She�ll do a follow-up exam on you�. Chloe says, �I promise. Thanks�. So Philip says, �Does she have any restrictions on her other than to take it easy for a couple of days�?

He says, �She just needs to take it easy for the next couple of days then she�s free to do whatever she likes just as long as it isn�t too strenuous. Do you have any more questions�? Chloe says, �No�. He says, "Well, I�m due in surgery in 30 minutes and need to go put my scrubs on so it was nice meeting the two of you and I hope you enjoy your stay on this beautiful island of ours. Susan will take care of your IV and paperwork then you are free to go. Take care�. Philip says, �Thanks for everything then shakes his hand. Dr. Tanaka leaves. Susan talks to them as she removes the IV and catheter needle. The paperwork is taken care of then Susan leaves.

Chloe looks at the piece of paper with all of the charges on it and says, �Oh my God! I..I haven�t even been in here a day and this bill is $2,345.00! It says, �Paid in full� and has your name written beside it. Philip, I�I promise to pay you back once I get to the Bank�. She panics then says, �My key! Did that man get my key�?

In a very loving and soothing voice Philip says, �It�s all right. I found the key and your glasses lying beside you so I picked them up and put them in my pocket. When I looked at the key and saw you didn�t have your purse or your black bag I decided this key was to one of the lockers in the terminal. Anyway, I hope you don�t mind but I took the liberty of taking your things out of the locker and put them in my suitcase. I promise you I haven�t looked inside of them�. She says, �I believe you. Where�where�s your suitcase? And would you please bring my things to me�?

Philip smiles then says, �Before I do that will you allow me to drive you to Lahaina? I�m going there too on my way to our Estate in Kapalua�. Chloe says, �If..if you�ll take me to the Bank of Hawaii I�ll be able to pay you back for your kindness�. Philip says, �I�ll take you anywhere you want to go but as far as paying me back�.you don�t owe me a thing�. She says, �But�.he places his fingers on her lips and says, �You don�t owe me a cent. Are you hungry�? She smiles and says, �You must�ve heard my stomach growling, huh�? He laughs then says, �Mine has been growling so loud I didn�t even hear yours�. She laughs then he says, �Now that�s what I love to see. That beautiful smile of yours�.

He says, �Well, I�ll be right back with our things then you can get dressed and we�ll leave this place�. She says, �All right. Thanks�. So he leaves and she pushes the button and Tonya, an LVN walks into the room and says, �Is everything all right�? Chloe says, �I don�t want to wear those clothes I was attacked in and all I have left to wear is my graduation dress. Is there a place nearby where I can buy a decent dress? Philip has asked me to go out to eat with him and I don�t want to embarrass him�. Tonya says, �You�re in luck because I�m going off shift and am heading to this shop down the street to pick up the dress I put on layaway a few weeks ago. Would you like me to pick one out for you�? Chloe says, �That would be great but just remember it has to be long and loose fitting so people can�t see�.her eyes start to tear up and Tonya says, �It�s all right, I understand. I�ll be back in a flash�.

Philip walks back into the room then lays her purse and bag on the bed beside her. He says, �The reason it took me a little longer is because I returned your key as well as mine and rented us this beautiful new red Corvette to drive back to Lahaina in�. She says, �I love Corvettes�. He says, �So do I! I left mine parked in the Salem Airport parking lot but had one of my friends drive it to his place and park it in his garage so my Father doesn�t know I�ve left Salem to come here�.

Tonya walks back into the room with a bag then says, �Chloe, come with me�. So Chloe gets up off of the bed and says, �I�ll be right back Philip�. He says, �I�ll be waiting�! She goes into the bathroom with Tonya and she helps her take her gown off and put the new undies she bought for her on then the dress. Chloe says, �This dress is so beautiful. I�ve never worn anything like this before. .

Tonya takes Chloe�s brush and brushes her hair for her then says, �Wow! You look terrific. Philip�s not going to be able to think when he sees you. Are the two of you involved�? Chloe says, �He�s way out of my league. A guy like that couldn�t possibly be interested in a girl like me�. Tonya says, �But he already is and I suggest that if you even like him in the least bit that you let him know because there are so many women here who�d love to take him away from you�.

Chloe says, �I see the way he looks at me but I just find it hard to believe that he�d want someone plain like me�. Tonya says, �Chloe, why can�t you see how beautiful you are. I�d give my right arm to be half as beautiful as you are and to have this Philip guy holding me in his arms the way he held you last night�. Chloe smiles and says, �Well, we�re just friends and maybe he�ll want more than that later on down the road�. Tonya says, �I can see that�s what you want so I say, �Go out there and show this sweet, adorable and handsome hunk of a man how beautiful you look�. Chloe is very nervous and says, �All right�wish me luck�.

Philip is pacing the floor then looks out the window. He smells perfume and turns around to see Chloe nervously standing there. He knew she was beautiful and didn�t think she could get any more beautiful but sees that he was wrong. She takes his breath away. He takes a deep breath then swallows and says, �You�you look absolutely in�incredibly�beautiful and�Chloe smiles then says, �Thanks Philip".

She then turns to Tonya and says, "How much do I owe you�? She says, �If I was rich I�d just give this to you but since I�m a poor working girl, it was $153.45�. Chloe looks in her purse then pulls out the envelope then gives her <2> $100.00 bills then says, �Thanks Tonya�. Tonya says, �Well you two, I�ve got to go so take care�. They say their goodbyes then she leaves.

Philip can�t seem to take his eyes off of Chloe but she looks inside her bag then takes her pair of white dress shoes out and places them on the floor then steps into them. He says, �Uh..ummm are you ready to go beautiful friend of mine�? She says, �Yeah�. So she picks up her bags with her right hand then he picks up his suitcase as well as his other bag then they leave the room. They luck out and dodge the orderly with the wheelchair then make their way out of the hospital to find the red Corvette sitting in the circular drive. He puts their stuff in the trunk then opens her door for her. He gently helps her get in then closes the door and hops in the driver�s seat.

He looks over at her and says, �Do you want to eat now or can you wait until we get to Lahaina�? She says, �I can wait. Philip it is so beautiful here�. He says, �It pales in comparison to your beauty. Umm�do�do you want to take the scenic route�? She smiles then says, �I just want to feel the sun on my face and the cool breezes rushing through my hair and�He says, �You�ve got it�. He takes off then heads for the highway that will take them along the scenic route where all they see is ocean on one side and the island on the other.

They�ve been driving for a little bit then she lays her head back and closes her eyes�taking in the warm sun coming down onto her face and the cool air rushing over her body. Philip looks over at her and is thinking: My God! I�ve never seen anyone as beautiful as she is�NEVER�and the thing is�she doesn�t even know she is�Kiriakis you�ve got it bad�.what are you gonna do�? Chloe opens her eyes then says, �I love all of the flowering trees, ferns, and just everything about this place. MMM�now I know why they call this place Paradise�.

Philip says, �I love it here too. I think I may end up staying here for a while, how about you�? She hesitates then says, �Yeah�for a while anyway�. He sees a lot of people parked at the point and says, �Do you like Humpback whales�? She says, �I love them�. He pulls into the parking lot and shuts the engine off. He gets out of the car and helps her out as well. He takes her right hand then walks her over to the edge of the cliff then points at the whales breaching. Philip watches her as she looks at them and she says, �Wow! I�ve read about this place and always wanted to see the Humpbacks and now I am�Oh Philip! Look at all of the babies out there�.

Philip didn�t hear a word she said because he can�t seem to take his eyes off of her. He�s mesmerized by her�She says, �Philip�? He says, �Uh�yeah Chloe�. She says, �I have read that on this island there are whale watching boats that go out daily and you can get really close to them�. Philip says, �Yeah I�ve heard it�s great but I�ve never done it yet. Would you like to go out with me when you feel better�?

She says, �Oh I�d love it�. She gets a chill then he wraps his arms around her and says, �Is that better�? She�s in heaven and says, �Much, much better�. He stands there holding her in his arms as they watch the whales in the bay. The water is so blue and that�s all you can see for miles. There are a lot of people there and everyone looks at them and smile�..One lady says, �Are the two of you newlyweds�? Chloe is thinking: MMM�I wish�. Philip is thinking: If only�MMM�

Philip smiles then says, �No�we�re just friends�. The lady says, �Well you sure look like newlyweds. The two of you are a perfect match and oh�you�d sure make beautiful babies together�. She walks away then Philip says, �I�m�I�m sorry about that�. Chloe says, �It�it�s all right. You know how little old ladies are�they�re always playing matchmaker�.

Philip says, �Yeah�Chloe says, �Look Philip! It looks like one of the smaller whales is pushing one of the babies up for air�! Philip smiles then says, �Usually what happens is the mother Humpback rests while her older baby plays babysitter pushing its little brother or sister up for air when it needs to. You know�teaching it the ropes�.

Chloe says, �This is�is so much fun. I�ve missed out on so much�I�ve never�.never�. A tear runs down her face and he gently wipes it away and says, �I�m so sorry you�ve had such a terrible life but if you�ll let me I�ll help you deal with your past�but�but only when you�re ready. I�I�ll even be your personal tour guide and take you to all of the special places on the island if you�ll allow me to�.

Chloe gently runs her fingers across his cheek then looks into his eyes and says, �You�re�you�re the sweetest guy I�ve ever known�actually the only��Philip says, �The only what, Chloe�? She slowly turns away then walks over to a bench overlooking the bay. She sits down placing her right hand underneath her left elbow/the cast on her arm to support it.

Philip sits down next to her on her right side because her left arm is in the cast. He leans back laying his head against the back of the bench, then stretches his legs out and is thinking: Just take it nice and slow Kiriakis�give her some space and she�ll open up to you. She needs you and you can�t let her down�.

Chloe looks out at the beautiful blue ocean and the Humpbacks breaching below and is thinking: I see so much love in his eyes, but there�s also so much pain. Maybe if I open up a little to him he�ll feel comfortable enough to open up to me and we can help each other. I have to help him deal with the pain he�s carrying inside�he needs me�.

Chloe smiles when she sees he�s all stretched out and leaning his head against the back of the bench. She�s cold again and Philip says, �Are you in need of my body again? Uh�I didn�t mean that the way it sounded. I mean this�. So he moves over close to her then wraps his arms around her. She says, �I..I�m sorry to be so much trouble but I didn�t have time to bring a jacket or anything else with me because�.because�. He says, �Hey�you don�t see me complaining do you�? He hugs her really tight then says, �This feels so good and so right�actually�.

Chloe says, �It�it really does. You�re the first guy�the first guy who�s ever paid any attention to me�. Philip can�t believe what he�s hearing and says, �You�re kidding�right? I mean Chloe, what guy wouldn�t be drawn to you? You�re shy, sweet, and so innocent and any guy in his right mind would take you in his arms and hold you�and�and never let you go�Then there�s the obvious Chloe�I mean..I mean you are the most beautiful girl I�ve ever seen�EVER�!

Chloe can�t believe what he just said. He's been calling her beautiful but...but this! He sees that she seems shocked by what he�s just told her then looks into her eyes and says, �Believe it! It�s true. Those guys in your hometown need to have their heads and eyes examined. I know if you�d gone to Salem High every guy in school would�ve been after you. I would�ve been first in line but you probably wouldn�t have given me the time of day�.

Chloe says, �You went to Salem High? And why do you think I wouldn�t have given you the time of day�? He turns away then she says, �Please Philip. Please talk to me�I�ve told you more than I probably should�ve about myself now it�s your turn to let me help you. We�re friends, right�? He turns back around to face her and says, �Always Chloe�you can count on that! Well, I�ve lived in Salem all of my life and just graduated from Salem High with honors, which by the way a lot of people had a hard time believing I could do".

"Chloe! It looks like I�m not doing a very good job of keeping you warm because you�re shivering. Why don�t we get back in the car and I�ll put the top back up and we�ll just sit there and I�ll tell you a little about myself. I feel so free when I�m with you. I just love talking to you�. Chloe smiles then says, �All right, but you really did keep me warm�she�s thinking to herself: and�and it feels so good to be in your arms. And I feel free when I�m with you..I feel like I can tell you anything and you�ll understand�.

Philip flashes those dimples and that smile and says, �You don�t know how happy it makes me to hear you say that�. She says, �It�s the truth�. He helps her up then they walk back over to the car. He opens her door for her then she gets in. Philip hops in the driver�s side and puts the top up. He settles down in his seat then she says, �Now why do you think I wouldn�t have given you the time of day�?

He says, �Well because of my rep�.you know the rich, spoiled jock who gets everything he always wants and who�s supposedly slept with every girl in school. The guy who�s Father is one of the wealthiest men in the world and has everything he�ll ever want and need�has this perfect family life because he lives in this mansion and has two parents that love him. The guy everyone calls the �Prince of Salem High, and the most popular guy in school. The guy who�s Father expected him to be the best at everything so he felt he had to be the Captain of not only the baseball, but the basketball, and footballs teams as well. The guy who was told that if you showed any kind of weakness�you know... that you were kind, loving, caring�the softer side of yourself that you were considered weak. A Kiriakis is supposed to be strong and nothing should bother them. I�m sorry Chloe�I�ve said way too much and my problems are nothing compared to the life you�ve had�.

Chloe has tears in her eyes and says, �You�ve never been allowed to be yourself, have you? Am I the only one who�s seen the �real" Philip Kiriakis? The guy who is sweet, loving, caring, kind, and just the most understanding and all around greatest guy I�ve ever known? You�ve never felt loved or felt like anything you�ve ever done was good enough. You did everything you could to make your parents notice you but they were never around much were they"?

"You�ve had everything money can buy but the one thing you needed the most was to have your parents around to show you just how much they love you. But they weren�t and you were left alone, weren�t you�? He�s crying and says, �You�re the first person who understands me. Who really understands how I�ve felt all of my life. I've never trusted that anyone really cared about me because of how wealthy my family is. Do they like Philip Kiriakis or did they just hang around me because I'm rich? Money doesn't buy happiness...Believe me I know. Chloe gently wipes his tears away as he wipes hers from her face. He says, "Enough about me. I want you to continue telling me about yourself". She says, "Only if you promise to talk to me about it later". He says, "I promise I will, Chloe".

Chloe says, "My Mother gave me away at birth and I was lucky enough to be adopted by this wonderful old couple, and for the most part I was happy living with them, but my adoptive Mother was jealous of me because I was the apple of my adoptive Father�s eye and he loved me. He�he really loved me and I loved him with all of my heart. She..she told me I was ugly and that the only pretty thing about me was my hair. It hurt�it really hurt but John, my Father loved me so I learned to live with her rejection. Then one night when I was 10 years old, they decided to go out and she didn�t want me to go. As they were leaving, my Father told me he loved me and I told him I loved him as well and �.and that�s the last time�.the last time I�I ever saw him..or them again�.

Tears are rolling down his face and he quickly gets out of the car. He opens her door then gently lifts her up and out of the car holding her in his arms. She lays her head on his shoulder and has a really good cry. He sees that most of the people have left so he takes her back over to the bench and sits down. He�s holding her on his lap and says, �I�m so sorry Chloe. What�what happened to your adoptive Father and Mother�? She says, �They�they never came back because�because they died in a horrible automobile accident. It broke my heart Philip. I didn�t think I�d be able to go on�but I had to�.

He says, �I�m here for you now and I�m never gonna leave you�never�. He holds her like this for a while then looks into her eyes and says, �If you don�t feel like talking about this anymore I�ll understand�. She says, �I really need you Philip. I need to tell you a little bit of this at a time because what happened to me after my adoptive parents died is almost as unbearable as having them die". He hugs her really tight.

She says, "And Philip! I would�ve given you more than the time of day because all I would�ve had to do was look into your eyes and that would�ve been it. I would�ve never been able to stay away from you no matter how hard I tried. I see a part of myself when I look into your eyes�. He says, �I feel the same way Chloe�.

His stomach is growling really loud and she laughs. Hers is growling as well and he says, �What do you say we get out of here and get something to eat? I�ll take you anywhere you want to go. We still have about a 15 minute drive to Lahaina but we�ll be there in a flash�. He wipes her tears away then kisses her gently on her cheek�. She wipes his away then kisses his forehead and says, �I'd definitely love to get something to eat but first I want to say: Has anyone ever told you what a great guy you are�?

He smiles then says, �Only you Chloe because I�ve never let anyone see this side of me but you�. She says, �Do you know how happy that makes me feel? I feel so wanted and needed�. He says, �You feel this way because you are. You�re wanted and needed by me�. He gets up then kisses her cheek again. He says, �Chloe I want you to know I�ll always be here for you no matter what. This I promise you�. She lovingly looks into his eyes and says, �And I�ll always be here for you Philip�no matter what! I promise�.

He gets up then takes her back over to the car then gently sets her down. He helps her get into the car then closes her door. He hops in the driver�s seat then says, �Chloe, while we�re driving if you don�t feel like talking about the other stuff yet, why don�t you tell me where you�ve lived this past year and what school you just graduated from�.

She says, �Well, I just graduated last night from Auburn High School with honors and was the valedictorian of our Senior class. I wasn�t too thrilled having that honor because I hated getting up in front of everyone to give my speech. I was the quiet, nerdy type�you know the book- worm as everyone calls people like us. It was really tough on me but I did it�.

He says, �Wow! Valedictorian huh? You must be really smart! You know, I�m really surprised I haven�t seen you before because of my being on all of the teams and our going to Auburn to play against the Panthers�. Chloe says, �Well, the reason you didn�t see me at any of the games is because all I got to do was go to school then go home and do my homework, never being allowed to go anywhere. I didn�t get to go to my Senior Prom either, but that was a good thing because none of the guys would�ve asked me to go with them anyway. I wasn�t popular, didn�t wear the right kind of clothes, and was terribly shy. I really didn�t fit in�and I really didn�t want to because just when I�d start to get comfortable I�d be sent away. Then I�d go live with another Foster family and the whole cycle started all over again. Actually, since my adoptive parents died when I was 10, I haven�t lived in one place for over 6 months in all of the Foster homes I�ve lived in until�.I�m sorry Philip, I just can�t talk about this anymore. It�s just too painful�.

He says, �That�s all right. I�ll be here for you when you�re ready to talk about it. Move over close to me and lay your head on my shoulder�. She does then he places his arm around her neck then gently squeezes her. He kisses her on her forehead then says, �How about some music to help you relax�? She doesn�t say anything to him because she�s thinking: I�m already relaxed�if you only knew what you do to me�. He says, �Chloe! Is that all right with you? Or would you just like to relax in silence�? She says, �Music sounds good�. So he turns the radio on then keeps switching the channels and �I Need You� is playing. She says, �Oh Philip. Can we please listen to that song? I love it�! He says, �I love this song too.....
