Chloe has now changed back into a really baggy black dress and puts her glasses back on. She is crying and says, �Tammy, I have to get out of this town. I heard that Jim has been looking all over for me and I�m so afraid of what he�ll do to me once he finds me�. Tammy hugs her then says, �Chloe, you�ve done a really good job of covering up all of your bruises and stuff, but maybe if we go to the authorities and you show them what he's done to you they�ll do something about him�. Chloe says, �I still have 1 month to go until my 18th birthday and even if the authorities take him away they�ll send me back to the Orphanage until then. I can�t stay here and I can�t go back to the Orphanage. I just can�t�!

Tammy�s Mother Lynn walks over to them and says, �Well Tammy, we need to get home for your graduation party. Are you coming with us Chloe�? Chloe is still crying and Tammy tells her Mother what has been happening. Lynn says, �Chloe, if we weren�t leaving the country tomorrow for 6 months I�d offer to have you stay with us, unless�unless you want to go to Europe with us�. Chloe says, �You guys are so sweet but what I really need is time alone�.far, far away from here�.

Lynn says, �I have another idea but it�ll take you off the mainland�. Chloe looks puzzled and says, �What do you have in mind�? Lynn says, �We have a beach house in Kapalua and it's close to the town of Lahaina, on the island of Maui, in the state of Hawaii. If you�re at all interested I�ll place $10,000.00 in an account for you at a bank in Lahaina and you can stay at our beach house as long as you like".

Chloe can�t believe this and tears start rushing down her face. She wipes them away then says, �I promise to pay every cent of the money back to you and also repay you for everything you�re doing for me�. Lynn hugs her and says, �The only thing we want is for you to get away from this town and away from that monster. You don�t have to repay any of this�.We just want you to be happy�. She hugs Chloe then Tammy does the same.

Chloe says, �I�d like to leave for Maui tonight if we can get a ticket this late�. Lynn says, �We have connections, darling. I�ll be right back�. So she leaves to make a call then 5 minutes later comes back to say, �Well, I�ve booked you on the red eye to Denver, Colorado in an hour. From there you�ll go to Oahu, then you�ll take another short flight to Kahului on Maui. Your ticket will be waiting for you at the counter at the Salem Airport. Just ask for Sally�.

Chloe hugs her then says, �I don�t have anything to wear but my graduation dress and the clothes on my back but I�m not taking any chances. I've got to leave this town before Jim finds me and..I..I just don't want to think about what he'll do to me if he ever finds me". Lynn motions for their driver Rick to pick them up. They get into the limousine then Lynn hands Chloe an envelope with $1,000.00 cash in it, and the key/address to the beach house.

She says, "When you get to Lahaina I want you to go to the Bank of Hawaii and tell them your name and that Lynn Armstrong sent you. I�ve arranged for $ 10,000.00 to be transferred from our account to one that will be opened in your name�. Chloe is crying and says, �Thank you so much. You�ve just saved my life�. Lynn and Tammy are both crying and Tammy says, �What are friends for if we can�t help each other out�?

Rick says, �Well, we�re here�! So he opens the door for the three of them then they get out. Tammy and Lynn both give Chloe a big hug then say their goodbyes. They leave. Chloe still has tears in her eyes but takes her small bag with her graduation dress and a few other things in it, as well as her purse and heads into the terminal.

Philip has just arrived at the Salem Airport and parks his new red Corvette then takes a carry-on as well as another suitcase out of his trunk then locks his car. He heads into the terminal and runs into Chloe, knocking her bag/purse out of her hands. She tries to pick up her things before he has the chance to, and she has to face him. But he quickly gathers her brush and organizer and says, �I�m really sorry Miss. I guess I wasn�t watching where I was going�.

She looks up and into his eyes and her heart starts racing. She has butterflies in her stomach and feels like she can�t breathe. Philip�s heart skips a beat and he feels nervous and like he can�t breathe. They are both in this trance for a few minutes then she says, �Ummm�uh that�s all right�. She gets up then takes her bag/purse and walks into the terminal.

She walks up to the counter and says, �I�m Chloe Lane and I need to see Sally�. Sally says, �That would be me. Lynn sent you, right�? Chloe says, �Yes. Do you have my ticket�? She says, �I�ve got it right here in my hot little hand. Just give me a second and you�ll be set to board the plane�. So Chloe patiently stands there waiting.

Philip walks up behind her and overhears Sally telling Chloe about her landing in Denver, Colorado, then boarding another plane to Oahu, then one to Kahului on Maui. Then she needs to get a taxi to take her to Lahaina. He�s thinking: I don�t want to go to Denver. It�s too cold. I could go for some fun in the sun and the cool breezes and beaches in Lahaina. I haven�t been there for about a year and have friends there�. So Sally gives Chloe her tickets then she quickly walks outside to board the plane.

Philip says, �I originally planned on going to Denver, but I�ve changed my mind. I want to go to Lahaina instead. Denver is way too cold�. Sally says, �Hmmm�this sudden change in plans wouldn�t have anything to do with the lady in black who just left, would it�?

Philip says, �Of course not. I�ve got friends on all of the islands that I haven�t seen in over a year and besides�I�ll take blue skies, sunshine, cool breezes and the beaches over Denver any day�. She smiles then says, �Whatever you say�. She hands him his ticket then says, �Good luck with your lady in black�. He starts to say something but just takes his ticket then boards the plane.

Chloe is seated next to the window in "first class". Philip walks in and takes the seat by the window across the aisle from her. Chloe can�t believe the affect he has on her. All she has to do is look at him and she becomes breathless and gets butterflies in her stomach. Her heart is beating faster than normal and when she thinks he�s not looking at her she looks at him.

She�s thinking: He�s so handsome and�.stop it Chloe Lane. A guy like that could never fall in love with you. Besides, he�s probably going to Denver. What if he�s going to Lahaina and I run into him there? What will I do? I�ve got to stop thinking about him. But I see so much pain in his eyes�Stop thinking about him Chloe�he�s a man and I can�t ever trust any man..I just can�t�!

Philip looks at her when he thinks she�s not looking at him then is thinking: I see a lot of pain in her eyes. I wonder why she wears clothes that are 3 sizes too large for her and they�re black! She has incredible blue eyes and�Kiriakis what is wrong with you? You don�t even know this girl and you�re following her to Lahaina�

They are now at the Denver Airport then board another flight to Oahu. This time Chloe�s seat is next to the window in first class, but Philip�s is right next to hers. He places his bag in the compartment up above then sits down. They are both nervous and don�t say a word to one another for most of the flight then he breaks the ice and says, �So�ummm�have you ever been to Hawaii�?

Chloe shyly/nervously says, �This�this is my first time. Have you�? He says, �Actually�.I�ve been here a lot of times and have friends on all of the islands. My family has an Estate in Kapalua�. The flight attendant says, �We should be landing in Kahului in 5 minutes so everyone prepare for a landing�.

The plane lands then he gets up and takes his bag out of the compartment above. He says, �Do you have a bag up here�? She says, �Yes. It�s the black one. But you don�t have to get it for me�. He smiles then says, �It�s no problem, really�. So he gets it for her then she says, �Thank you and leaves the plane.

They board another plane headed for Kahului. He is seated across the aisle from her and they�ve been in the air for about 15 minutes then he notices that the guy sitting next to her is making the moves on her. He sees that this is really making her uncomfortable and starts to get up but the flight attendant says, �Please be seated Sir. We�ll be landing shortly�.

So Philip sits down then the plane lands. He quickly gets his bag out of the compartment above then goes over to get hers out for her. He says to the guy, �Excuse me but I�m traveling with the lady�. The guy leaves then she says, �Thanks�.

She takes her bag then says, �It was nice talking to you�. She then leaves the plane with Philip not far behind her. There are so many people in the Kahului Airport and he loses sight of her. After looking everywhere for more than 10 minutes, he sees her coming out of the ladies restroom. He's frantic when he sees that the guy who sat next to her on the plane is following her. He has this uneasy feeling and takes off running after her.

hilip is running as fast as he can because he sees that the guy is right behind Chloe and is about to grab her. He�s yelling in hopes that she�ll hear him in time but everyone in the Airport just looks at him like he�s a crazy man. Chloe turns her head around to see who�s yelling and the guy grabs her and places his hand on her mouth.

Caution tape has been placed across the hallway he starts to drag her down because it is unsafe for anyone to use because the floor tiles need to be replaced. This guy cuts the tape with his knife then drags Chloe down it then into another hallway when he sees nobody is around. Philip sees where he took her then makes it there just in time to see him take the gold chain off of her neck then trying to remove her clothes.

Chloe�s heart is beating so fast and she�s so scared and has flashbacks of her Foster Father beating her. She comes out of it and decides she�s not gonna just stand there she�s gonna fight. So she screams then kicks him in the leg. He lifts his hand up and starts to hit her and she knees him in the crotch. This makes him very angry and he says, �You little bitc*! I outta kill you right here�. Philip yells, �You Son of a bitc*! Don�t lay a hand on her or I�ll kill you�. The guy pushes Chloe away knocking her to the ground causing her to hit her head really hard on the floor.

Philip punches him in the stomach then in the face then he runs away when he sees people coming. Philip quickly goes to her and his heart drops when he sees that she has been knocked unconscious. He puts his head against her mouth and realizes that she is still breathing and grabs her wrist to check for a pulse. Her pulse is rapid then within a few minutes it slows considerably. He sees her gold chain with a key on it and her black glasses lying on the floor next to her. He picks them up and puts them in his pocket because it appears she doesn�t have a purse or anything else on her person.

He picks her head up and feels a really big knot on the back of it and now has blood on his hands. He pulls his shirt off then places it behind her head and when he raises her eyelids her pupils don�t look right. He knows that this is not a good sign and that he needs to get her to a Hospital ASAP. There are now people standing over them and he looks up and says, �Please, can someone get an ambulance. She�s unconscious�.

Everyone is just standing there so he picks her up against his better judgment knowing that time is of the essence. He runs to the nearest security guard then says, �Please Sir, this young woman was just attacked and the guy knocked her to the ground and she�s unconscious. We need to get her to the Hospital ASAP�.

Sam, the Airport Security Guard says, �The Kahului Hospital is really close, in fact it�s just down the street. Just let me make a call then I�ll take you there myself because we�ll get there a lot faster than an ambulance will�. Philip has tears in his eyes and feels really guilty because he didn�t get to her in time. As he�s holding her in his arms waiting for Sam to come back he sees bruises all over her arms and on her legs. He now knows that she�s running from someone and knows why he saw so much pain in her eyes.

Sam comes back and says, �Follow me young man�. So Philip does and they make their way outside of the terminal to find Sam�s car sitting in the circular drive. He opens the door for Philip then he gently lays Chloe down on the seat. He closes the door then goes over to the other side of the car. He opens the back door then gently lifts her head up and places it on his lap. He gently moves her long hair away from her face then takes her hand in his and once again checks her pulse. It seems to be beating a little stronger and more steadily but he�s very worried about the fall she took and the bump on her head.

Her head is still bleeding and he remembers he needs to apply a little pressure to the area to make it stop. Sam says, �Young man, how is she doing�? Philip says, �Her pulse is beating stronger than it was before and I think if I apply enough pressure to the back of her head it�ll stop bleeding. This is all my fault�.

Sam says, �How is this your fault�? Philip says, �I told that guy she was with me when he came onto her on the plane then had this uneasy feeling that something was gonna happen to her. After we got off of the plane I tried to keep an eye on her but there were so many people coming and going and I lost sight of her�.

Philip continues saying, �I looked everywhere for her for over 10 minutes then when I finally spotted her coming out of the women�s restroom I saw this same guy following her. I ran as fast as I could yelling all of the way trying to get her attention or anyone�s for that matter, but didn�t get there in time. She turned around and he put his hand over her mouth then pulled her into the hallway. You know, the hallway with the caution tape on it.

He continues saying, "Then he dragged her down the hallway and into another hallway and tried to force himself on her. She kicked him in the leg then he tried to hit her then she kneed him in the crotch and this made him very angry. He pushed her really hard and she fell to the ground hitting her head very hard. I punched him in the stomach and in the face but he ran away when he heard people coming. Then I checked her out then picked her up and found you�.

Sam says, �What I need you to do after we get her into the ER to be checked out is to give me a description of what this guy looks like then I�ll have to contact the local Police to let them know about this attempted rape. Can you do that for me�? Philip says, �Yes, because we can�t allow this guy to do this to another innocent young woman. I hope it doesn�t take too long because I need to be by her side. I can�t leave her for a minute�.

Sam pulls into the circular drive at the Kahului Hospital then quickly gets out and opens the car door for Philip. Philip gently takes her head off of his lap then sets it down on the seat. He then picks her up and carries her into the ER. Sam has already alerted the ER staff about her and they have a gurney ready. Philip lays her down on it then the ER Doctor takes a look at her. Philip is standing there watching him and says, �Is she gonna be all right? Please tell me she�s gonna be all right�!

Dr. James Tanaka lifts her eyelids and flashes his small light in her eyes then away from them then repeats this procedure. He says, �Young man, can you tell me what happened�? So Philip tells him what he just told Sam and Dr. Tanaka says, �Well, how long ago was this that she hit her head�? Philip is very worried and is shaking then runs his fingers through his hair and says, �Ummm�probably about 10 minutes or so. Oh my God! When I lifted her eyelids her pupils didn�t look right and I know that�s not a good sign. Please tell me she doesn�t have brain damage because I didn�t get to her in time�.

Dr. Tanaka says, �Well, from what I see so far it looks like she�s going to be all right but we need to do a CT scan of her head to make sure. He lifts her dress up over her knees then everyone sees all of the bruises that look pretty fresh on her legs. Philip has tears in his eyes and Dr. Tanaka says, �Do you know this young woman or who has done this to her�?

Philip says, �I talked to her on the plane for a little bit but don�t know her name or where she�s from�or any of that. I just felt this need to protect her. When I looked into her eyes I could see she was carrying around a lot of pain inside but had no idea this was why. It breaks my heart to think that someone could do this to such a beautiful and shy young woman�.

Dr. Tanaka says, �It sounds to me like this young woman, whoever she is, is very lucky to have such a warm and caring guy looking out for her. Well, we�re going to get her out of these clothes then put a hospital gown on her. Then instead of having just the CT scan done I�m going to have her whole body x-rayed to see if she has any broken bones or signs of physical abuse. So I just want you to know that it may take a while before I can give you any more information on her. Why don�t you go get yourself something to eat and try and relax until then, all right�? Philip says, �I don�t feel like eating anything but have to go get my luggage from the Airport and will be back in 15 minutes�.

Sam says, �I�ll take you back to the Airport then bring you back here when you�re ready if you like�. Philip smiles then says, �My name is Philip and I�d sure appreciate it�. So they head out the door and back to the Airport terminal. Philip says, �I�ll just be a few minutes so Sam waits in the car for him. Philip goes to the baggage claim department then gets his bags then sees that a lot of people are putting their bags in lockers. He sees that their keys look like the one on the chain that is in his pocket.

He looks at the number on the key, which is # 24 then walks down several lines of lockers to find it. He opens it up to find her black carry-on bag and her purse. He then places them in his large suitcase and locks it up. He puts the key back in his pocket then heads back out to the car. Sam has the trunk open then Philip puts his luggage in it and closes it. He then gets into the front passenger seat and closes the door. Sam says, �Well, I�ll drop you off then I have to get back to work. I�ve alerted the Kahului Police and they�ll be waiting inside for your account of what happened�. Philip says, �Thanks for everything Sam. Philip gets out then takes his luggage out of the trunk and waves goodbye to Sam.

He walks back into the Hospital and walks up to the Information Desk. He says, �Is there a place I can leave my suitcases while I wait to see if my friend is all right�? Linda, the Receptionist says, �Yeah. Take this key and you can put your suitcases in the locker then when you�re finished with it just bring the key back to me�. Philip says, �Thanks a lot. I really appreciate this�. She smiles then he leaves and places his suitcases in the locker and heads back to the ER.

Philip is pacing the floor because he�s been told that Chloe is still in X-ray. All kinds of thoughts are running through his head. He�s feeling very guilty, is very scared she may have brain damage, his heart is breaking because of all of the bruises he saw on her body and wonders who could have done this to her. He takes her glasses out of his pocket then looks through them to see that they are not prescription glasses and is thinking: She doesn�t need these glasses but is hiding behind them and her black clothes that are 3 times too large. My God! She�s hiding all of her bruises and doesn�t want anyone to notice how beautiful she really is�.

Dr. Tanaka sees Philip pacing the floor then walks over to him and says, �I have some good news and some bad news for you�. Philip�s heart feels like it�s gonna break when he hears this. He�s holding back the tears and says, �You might as well tell me the bad news first�. Dr. Tanaka says, �This beautiful young woman has most definitely been physically abused and we see evidence of her having broken a leg as well as her right arm being broken in two places�probably when she was much younger".

He continues saying, "She�s had a broken arm which I�d say was just broken a couple of days ago and has probably had to endure the pain because the person who did this to her wouldn�t take her to the Hospital. I�ve had it put in a cast and she�ll have to wear a sling for a while. She has bruises all over her entire body that appear to be very recent..probably happened when her arm was broken. But the good news is that she just has a concussion and after a few days in the Hospital she should be fine�. Philip says, �Thank God! I�ve been so worried about her�.

Dr. Tanaka smiles and says, �I believe you�ve become very attached to this young woman, haven�t you�? Philip smiles then says, �I don�t know why but ever since I looked into her eyes I feel this need to be near her and to protect her�. Dr. Tanaka says, �I can tell you why that is because I see it in your eyes when you talk about her but I�ll let you come to that realization on your own�.

Philip looks puzzled but Dr. Tanaka says, �Officer Don Williams of the Kahului Police Dept. will be talking to you after while to get your statement but I�ve talked to him and we feel she ran away from an abusive home and we�ll keep her here until she has fully recovered. BUT there is a problem with who is going to pay for her Hospital bill. I�m sure if I had the time I could find someone to pay for it, but�.

Philip says, �Just let me know how much it is and I�ll gladly pay for it. I don�t care how much it is�I�ll pay for it�. Dr. Tanaka says, �All right, if I could just have you go to the Billing Dept. and give them your name and tell them that you�ll be responsible for payment of her medical bill I�d really appreciate it. By the way, what is your name�? Philip says, �My name is Philip Kiriakis�.

He says, �Are you the son of the very wealthy Victor Kiriakis who owns the Estate in Kapalua�? Philip says, �Yes, but please don�t tell anyone that, all right? I�d rather people not know that I�m wealthy because they treat you differently. Anyway, after I talk to the Billing Dept. would it be possible for me to see her�? Dr. Tanaka says, �You most certainly can Philip. You saved this young woman�s life�. So he pats Philip on the shoulder then says, �Well, I need to go check on some of my other patients so I�ll talk to you later�. Philip says, �Thanks Dr. Tanaka�. He leaves.

Philip has talked to the Billing Dept. as well as to Officer Don Williams. He has changed into a new set of clothes and is now headed to Room # 220. His heart is racing and he�s really nervous. He straightens his shirt up and runs his hands through his hair then takes a deep breath and walks into her room. She�s got an IV with D5W in it and lines running to her hand where the catheter has been placed. Her arm is now in a cast and has been placed on a pillow. The Nurse says, �My name is Susan and your friend is sleeping peacefully. If you�d like to sit with her until she wakes up I�m sure she�d like that�.

Philip walks over to her bedside and looks at Chloe then tells Susan, �Would it be all right if I sleep in the chair alongside her bed tonight. She doesn�t know anyone here and she needs me�. Susan smiles then says, �I�ll just bring another blanket and a pillow for you and you can sleep in the chair or beside her if she chooses�. Philip smiles then says, �Thanks Susan�. Susan smiles then leaves.

Philip leans down and kisses her on the forehead then pulls a chair alongside her bed then sits in it. He takes her hand in his then sits there watching her sleep. He�s thinking: She�s so beautiful and her skin feels like silk. Her fingers are so long and thin. She�s like that lavender orchid Mom has at home�.so fragile and rare. Why would anyone want to hurt her when you can tell she wouldn�t hurt a fly�. He starts to doze off then she wakes up and sees him sitting there and that he�s holding her hand. She thinks she�s dreaming so she rubs her eyes but when she looks again, he�s still sitting there.

She softly says, �Thank�thank you�. Philip wakes up and feels like a huge weight has been lifted off of his shoulders because she�s now awake. . He looks into her eyes then says, �Do you know how worried I�ve been about you�? She can�t believe how sweet he is and how much love he has in his eyes. She shyly says, �You were�were really worried about me�? He says, �I�ve been going out of my mind worrying about you. I don�t know what I would�ve done if you�well if you had�I don�t even want to think about it�.

She says, �That�that man! Did they catch him�? Philip says, �I�m sorry but they haven�t caught him yet but I gave them his description and hopefully they�ll find him very soon�. She softly says, � I�I don�t know what I�I would�ve done if you hadn�t�hadn�t come along when you did�. Tears are running down her face and she says, �My God! He was gonna rape me just like�just like�. Philip says, �My God! Who tried to rape you and did all of these awful things to you�? She turns away then he gently turns her face back towards his and she says, �Please. I can�t talk about it now�. Philip says, �I understand and want you to know that I�m your friend and will be here for you no matter what. When you�re ready to talk about it I�ll be right here by your side to help you deal with this�.

She�s crying and says, �You don�t even know me and you care about me. Nobody has ever cared about me. Why do you want to be my friend and why do you care so much�? He leans over to her and gently kisses her forehead and says, �All I know is that I feel connected to you and have this need to be near you and protect you�. She wipes her tears away then says, �Could you just lie down beside me and hold me�? He has tears in his eyes then moves the tubing out of the way then lies down beside her and wraps his arms around her then she falls asleep. He soon falls asleep as well.
