The draft is rapidly approaching and I'm sure I'm not the only KEY Packer fan eagerly anticipating the moves that Ron Wolf and Mike Holmgren will make from thier Green Bay war room. With a few big losses at key possitions, the Packers will look to the draft to accomplish a large chunk of their reloading this offseason. Defensive line is obviously an area that management needs to address due to the loss of Gabe Wilkins and the uncertain future of Reggie White, and there are a few decent prospects in the class of '98. With the 29th pick, it is unlikely that the Packers will land a big name, but DE Grant Wistrom out of Nebraska or tackle Jeremy Staat out of Arizona State may fall into Wolf's lap and it would be foolish to pass on one of these two. The Packers may also want to target the secondary with a second or third round choice because of the loss of starters Doug Evans and Eugene Robinson. Craig Newsome will return to his starting role and Darren Sharper seems ready to step up for 'Gene, but depth is definitely a concern anytime your looking to Rod Mullen to be a second stringer and nickel and dime package starter. The only notable corner or safety in this draft is Charles Woodson and he'll be long gone by the time the Packers go on the clock. Here's a quick look at this KEY fan's top ten picks in the '98 draft:
1. Colts: Peyton Manning, QB, Tenn.- Best QB prospect in draft in many years, a lock to go here.

2. Chargers (From Cards): Ryan Leaf, QB, WSU.- Although reported to be out of shape, Leaf owns a cannon on his right arm and Bobby Beathard is desperate to get one of these two elite QBs.

3. Cardinals (From Chargers): Andre Wadsworth, DE, FSU.- Wouldn't want to be an NFC East qb facing a cardinal front four of Swann, Rice, and Wadsworth.

4. Raiders: Charles Woodson, CB, Mich.- Al Davis collects Heisman winners and Woodson is a great boost to a sorry Oakland defense.

5. Bears: Tra Thomas, OT, FSU- Bears look to gain protection for thier QBs. What QBs, you ask?

6. Rams: Curtis Enis, RB, Penn St.- Talented back seems the logical choice here, Rams look to replace Lawrence Phillips.

7. Saints: Vonnie Holliday, DT, UNC- Sources say Holliday has had impressive off season workouts, Ditka loves defense and will nab him.

8. Cowboys: Randy Moss, WR, Marshall- Jerry Jones loves druggies and felons, Moss is both. Moss and the Cowboys are a match made for heaven.

9. Jags (from Buffalo): Fred Taylor, RB, Florida- Loss of Natrone Means Business creates hole that Jags help fill with Taylor.

10. Ravens: Anthony Simmons, LB, Clemson- Quick and strong, Simmons will upgrade the Ravens linebacking corps.

With the 29th pick, look for the Packers to get either Jeremy Staat, DT, ASU or Brian Kely, CB, USC. Either player would fill a need for Green Bay and both are legitimate first rounders. Now for the next order of business......YO RON, PLEASE PAY DORSEY!!!!
