![]() Is anybody else getting a bit sick and tired of hearing about how free agency is going to destroy the Pack? Come on people, we sign Levens and Gabe Wilkins and we're right back in the big dance. Obviously there are some other quality unrestricted players and we wouldn't want to lose a guy like Robert Brooks or Doug Evans, but I know a guy named Mayes who's ready to step up and this Newsome fella who'll be coming back at full strength next season. Bottom Line, Ron Wolf and Packers Chief Financial Officer Mike Reinfeldt will sign who they feel they have to sign, and the team will move on. That's just my two cents worth on the free agency issue. Switching subjects, how would you like to see Brett Favre drop back and hit Don Hutson on a deep post for 6? Impossible you say? Nothing's impossible on Flight's Packer Page. I've put together a little all-time Packer Dream Team that I'm sure will stir up a little debate between some of you. Here go's. No doubt about it, Brett Favre gets the start at quarterback. He's already surpassed all of Bart Starr's statistical accomplishments, won a Super Bowl, collected 3 MVP awards and has done all of this in less than half the number of seasons that Bart Starr played. Thirty years from now folks'll be talking about Brett Favre, greatest quarterback of all time. Looking for an effective running game? How about Jim Taylor between the tackles and Paul Hornung around the outside. Who does a defense key on? On third down, coach JMP brings in the woman playing, cigar smoking Johnny "Blood" McNally, an elusive runner and deadly pass reciever in the early '30s. My receiving corps boasts an impressive combination of speed and strength. Don Hutson, greatest player in team as well as league history, brings blinding speed (once clocked at 9.5 in the 100 yard dash) to my attack. Hutson, a charter member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame when it opened in 1963, still owns 10 NFL receiving and scoring records. Sterling Sharpe is the pick to start along side Hutson, and he brings the strength to this unit. Simply dominant before sustaining a carreer ending neck injury, Sterling was an all time clutch performer. The tight end slot go's to Keith Jackson, maybe the most dangerous receiving tight end in the history of the game. It's quite an accomplishment when a tight end catches double digits in TD passes in a season, and Keith did just that in '96. This O-line is simply a dominating unit. How about 4 hall of famers? At tackle we have the man Lombardi called "the greatest player I ever coached" in Forrest Gregg and the legendary Cal Hubbard, pro football's first giant. Two way great Iron Mike Michalske wins a guard slot because of his exceptional quickness and textbook footwork. He is joined by Fuzzy Thurston, a great lead blocker on the old Lombardi Packer sweep. How about Jim Ringo at center? He was only a 10 time pro bowler. As if my offense wasn't potent enough, NOBODY would EVER score on my defense. My ends are two all-time greats, Reggie White and Willie Davis. Tough choice there, huh. Opposing QBs would spend the better part of an afternoon on their backs. Five time all-pro Henry Jordan would hold down the middle along with my two way star "Iron Mike" Michalske. The linebacking unit is headed by my captain, middle backer Ray Nitschke. Simply the greatest to ever play the position. He's flanked by perennial Pro Bowlers from the 60s, Bill Forester and Dan Currie. The secondary is simply unbeatable. I'll take my chances with Willie Wood and Herb Adderly at corner. They say Deion cuts off a side of the field for the cowgirls, well, these guys cut off both sides of the field. LeRoy Butler will dominate tight ends for me and my other saftey is the hard hitting Chuck Cecil. Ouch. Overall, not a bad squad. Throw in Desmond Howard to return kicks and punts and I'm set. If you're looking for kickers and punters, quit. They are not football players and you won't find them in my column. Drop me an email if you have some other ideas for a fantasy team. Later.
