The Kansas City Sirens Women's Rugby Football Club is a brand new sports club, founded January 1997. The team was started by the former coach and several players from the successful KC Jazz Women's Rugby Football Club. The founders of the KC Sirens believe that the Kansas City metropolitan area can support several womens rugby clubs and strive to establish a unique rugby club enticing to Kansas City women and supporters. Hence the team name.....Sirens.
Women's Rugby in Kansas City was part of the athletic scene in the 70's and 80's. The womens rugby teams disappeared for a decade or so before ressurecting the challenging game with the birth of KC Jazz and the addition of the KC Sirens. The club competes on a average of 12-14 matches per season, including 2-3 tournaments. Matches are scheduled with teams from the Kansas and Missouri area as well as teams from Colorado, Texas, Iowa, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and farther! The Kansas City Sirens compete in an active Spring and Fall Season and a lighter Summer 7's season.
