Eric, Doug and Rich arrived at Vasona Park for the final Saturday of play in 1998. At stake, the final Winner of the Week, which has become known as the Winner of the Year.

Rich and Doug got the early deuces on hole one, as Eric just must his attempt. Rich deuced the second hole as Doug and Eric parred and bogeyed. Rich then blitzed the field by simply getting par on the next three holes while Eric and Doug struggled with bogeys. After nine holes Rich was two under par with a four stroke lead over Doug and seven over Eric.

Eric finally scored a deuce at hole twelve. Rich deuced hole thirteen, sixteen and seventeen, and Doug got one at seventeen also. When the scores were tallied, Eric came in at 60, and Doug had 56. Rich played like a champion, without a single bogey, and five deuces made him Winner of the Week with a sterling 49. This was the only sub-50 round in the second half of the year.
