October 30th, 1999
The fifth Saturday of October was a special day at the Coyote Creek Disc Golf course. Invitations were made to San Jose's participants in the Wham-O World Juniors Frisbee Championships, Nick Raisch and Ashkon Namdar. Both players along with teacher and their long-time Ultimate coach, Nate Fairchild showed up to meet the deuces and play a round with everyone. The deuces in turn were out in force, as nine players came to greet Nick and Ash. Attendees included Jim Hauer, Eric Mickelson, Rich Norris, Doug Korns, Chris Illes, Jeff Tuckwood, John Davis, Jim Challas and Key Joye. Twelve attendees is the most players on a Saturday since thirteen played in 1987!
Since the deuces had never played the front (short) tees at this course, the format was altered to play the back tees on the front nine and the front tees on the back nine. This produced a tight race overall as two sixsomes of players took off, starting with actual hole seventeen as the first hole on the score card. Ken Joye claimed the first deuce of the day on hole one. Eric claimed the first OB of the day on the same hole. Hole five yielded deuces to Doug, Ash and Chris. Hole eight was deuced by Nate, John, Eric, Nick and Jim Hauer. After nine holes steady play proved to be the best. Jim Challas with nine pars was tied at 27 with Nate. Jim Hauer and Key Joye were one back at 28. Nick, Eric and Chris all tallied 29. At 30 were Doug and John. Jeff was at 31 and Ash 33.
The back nine, being shorter, found a flurry of deuces all over the score card. Doug, Eric and Jim Challas hit for five deuces. Nate, John, and Nick made three deuces, Rich had two and Jeff scored one. Holes thirteen and fourteen (real 10th & 11th) were deuced by half the players. Five players deuced holes twelve and fifteen while four players managed deuces on holes eleven. Hole eighteen yielded no deuces (all day), but hole ten caused the most problems as three players in one group went OB! Everybody had at least one deuce on the day!
Jim Challas, playing bogey-free golf claimed the top spot with a 49. Eric's blistering back nine enabled him to pull even with Nate at 51. Doug and Jim Hauer both had 53. Rich scored a 55 with Nick and John next at 56. Ken and Chris were at 57. Jeff tallied a 61 and Ash finished with a 66.

Congratulations to Jim Challas, as winner of the week
