August 29th, 1998
The fifth Saturday of any month means it's time for
the challenging Coyote Creek park. Eric Rich, Doug and John came to test
their skills on San Jose's new pole hole course. John Davis captured the
early lead with a par on the first hole played, while eveyone else bogeyed.
On hole two Eric and Rich parred, while the rest bogeyed. John and Eric
both managed pars on hole three. After nine holes and a lot of bogeys for
everyone, Eric and John were tied at 29. Rich and Doug were up in the 30's
and struggling.
John opened a big lead with great deuces on hole ten
and eleven. A series of par holes for everyone passed until Eric managed
a par at hole sixteen, while everyone else bogeyed. Coming in to the last
hole, the leaders were separated by a stroke. Eric made a long, thrilling
deuce while everyone else parred. This dramatic finish left Eric and John
tied for the day at one over par and they agreed this was a worthy finish.
Doug and Rich were several strokes behind the leaders.
Congratulations to Eric and John for their hard earned tie for the day.
