FAQ:
What are the Simm settings and impact?
What happens when I loose a player to injury and I don't get a new lineup in before games are played?
What rules do you have in this league?

About the SIMM and League settings:

Money No intention of using finances
Coaches affect play Turned on, not usre how much they really do... very small impact we think
Experience/Leadership Turned on, expierence and leadership qualities of players do help, especially in pressure situations. But don't get too old in your roster, or the young pups will run ya down.
Farm team The Simm has an option to alter farm players ratings based on the farm teams results in farm play. We have this turned on, whatch your farm players, their ratings will occasionally change. Of course they have to be on the farm to recieve the negative or positive benefits of this. We have seen players OV improve by as much as 8.
Streaks and Slumps This is another option which will cause your team to streak or slump, its really hard to tell what impact this has. Contrary to the image above, streaks and slumps have been turned off for regular season and Playoffs.
Trades All trades must be announced by both parties by separate email to the Commish, usually they are automatically approved. In the rare case the trade is absolutely imbalanced  it will not be approved.
Injuries Option to have them is turned on, we can also set the level of injuries <more / less>. Currently the setting on the scale of 1-11 is approx 5.5
Suspensions The Simm has an option to suspend players if they are really bad boys! We have this turned on, the impact isn't too bad.
GM's participation You must participate regularly, if not you will likely loose your team real quick. If you have problems contact the Commish........ he is an O.K. guy!

Playing games and setting lines:

Games will be played daily any time after 8pm AST Mon - Thurs , on Fridays any time after 4pm AST, On Sat and Sundays anytime after 1pm AST. On occasion times may vary, I will announce any changes in advance.

Getting your lines in before these times will ensure they are installed for that days games. Your lineup will always stay the same unless you change them. Below are a list of some problems with line ups.

Problems:

Lines sent in are currupt or we can't read them, We will revert back to your original lines and make no changes, should there be enough time before games are played we will email or conact you on ICQ to sort it out. Netscape has a nasty habit of adding an extra character to the *.lns file when it is sent as an attachment. This causes a corruption problem, if the league seems to be getting corrupted lines from you regularly then try using the send email option in ICQ and attach your lines to that, or zip your lines file before sending it as an attachment in Netscape.
Lines sent in using an older version of the league dat file. Make sure you are using the latest version of the league file, also make sure you are overwritting the old dat file when you unzip it. We have found this to be the most common problem.
Lines not sent in before games are played and you have an injured player(s). We do nothing.. the Simm will compensate by using the available players.
You will be away for a couple days, we will if asked, replace injured players with the highest OV on your bench or farm for same position. Next we "auto" the lines, the Simm has a feature that will automatically set line combo's and it does a pretty good job.
Injured player returns, If you don't send in lines when a injured player returns, the simm usually will auto your lines. So if you don't want this to happen send in lines when injured or suspended players return.
Always use the current league data file for sending in your lines, using one from the past will guarantee a unreadable file we can do nothing with.

GHL RULES:
Basic
One team per General Manager.
Games will be simulated by the Commissioner using Fantasy Hockey League (by Sean Bates).
A official simm year (1,2,3....) runs from approx July - June. This allows us to actually simm separate sub-seasons. July - Oct (A), Nov - Feb (B) Mar - June (C). Seasons are numbered as an example 3A, 3B, or 3C.
Games will be played each day unless otherwise posted.
Each team will play 82 games per season, 8 against each division rival, 6 against conference and 4 against each non-conference rival.
There will be 16 teams divided into 2 conferences and 4 divisions. 8 teams advance to playoffs in subseasons A & B all 16 teams advance to the playoffs in subseason C.
Each playoff series will be a best of seven games.
GM's must participate in league events, votes etc... should a GM become non active the Commissioner or Co Commissioner may remove them from the League and team. A scorecard will be kept on GM's and their performance, Gm's will be advised of the scoring system.
Rules are subject to change based on new situations and decisions needing to be made. This page will be kept up to date as quick as possible.
Rosters
Each team must have a PRO roster of 18 skaters and 2 goalies.
You cannot have more or less than 2 goalies and you cannot have more than 18 skaters in a game.
You can have up to 25 players on your active roster, however only 20 will be allowed to play in each game.
Of your 18 skaters, you must have 9 forwards and 6 D. The remaining 3 positions can be distributed among any of the four positions.
There is  maximum of 38 players total on your combined Pro team and Farm rosters, the minimum is 28. In Season 5.C this will change to 40 and 30.
There is a maximum of 12 prospects you can have in your prospect list
Propsects are exempt from roster limit as long as they maintain their prospect status. (have no simm rating)
Players who are placed on the prospect list because of NHL holdouts, long term injuries etc, must return to the pro roster once they get rated again. (This would happen when there is a free agency draft)
 Trading
Negotiations should be held privately between concerned parties.
Make sure you include all players and or draft picks, etc. that are included in the trade agreement. Any trade made will require a separate email from both parties to the Comish to be valid (Forwarded emails are not acceptable). There is no trade board in this league so all trades will have to be approved by the commissioner. We will be fair on the trades but if it goes to far a trade may be reversed, Gm's caught acting as feeders to another team for the promotion of that team will be removed from the league.
You must make sure that all parties are aware of player Simm injuries or suspensions before trading the players.
No trades after the trading deadline, 65 games have been played by yours and the other team.
Trading is re-opened once the final game of the playoffs is completed.
You can trade draft picks, players or prospects, for draft picks only for the current seasons can be traded (i.e. NOT future season picks). For the purpose of clarification the current season is deemed to end once the playoffs are completed and the trading has been opened again.
The Commish may call for a league vote or any other method he deems fit to rule on a trade.
Any Gm may call in to question a trade they deem is detrimental to the league or a team. This is to be done by email stating the facts, please be objective, this isn't about a trade being won by a GM or not, its about trades that are bad enough to damage a teams ability to compete or trades that impact the spirit of fair play for the league. The commish will make a decision and respond as appropriate. Note, in ruling the commish also may consider the expeirence of the GM's when making a decision.
Salaries & Finances
There will no messing with money in this league...
Player Injuries
During the course of the season players will be injured. Usually the average injury is from 1-12 games. The Injury Report will  show which players are hurt and the estimated time they are gone for.
Suspensions
Throughout the course of the season players who have excessively high penalty minutes in a agme may receive 1-5 game suspensions.
The Simm automatically hands out suspensions and the League management will not alter or change these. Only in the case where it is clear the SIMM has malfunctioned could a change be made.
 Goalies
You must dress 2 (and only 2) goalies for each game no more, no less

Waiver & Entry drafts

General info:

When new rerates are made public and the Hockey's Future site is updated with the final CSB prospect rankings an Entry draft will be held. Players from the unassigned pool and the prospects from the current NHL rookie draft are eligable. Note that depending on the timing of the current season a delay in league operations may result while waiting for rerates or Hockeys future to be ready. If the delay will be more than 6 weeks, then the league likely will complete another Simm season before holding the draft. The league will announce the timing of the draft Normally the draft should take place some time in late July
Prior to the entry draft taking place all players currently on any teams prospect list that have received a rating will be placed on the pro roster.
Prior to this draft taking place teams may option to release players from thier rosters to the draft pool where they will become available to all. This process of releasing will be completed before any drafting will take place.
Remember that Roster limits remain in affect at draft time, the roster limits can affect a team drafting with a pick obtained from another team. Example Team #1 has 38 players and no longer can pick but team #7 has a pick it gained from Team #1 in a previous trade. Team #7 can still use this pick, provided they have not reached the 38 man max..
Example Team #5 is ready to pick using a pick it gained from another team.. This pick will cause Team #5 to go over the 38 player limit, Team #5 will loose this pick and any others it has. Bottom line you can draft until you hit you max roster limit or run out of picks.

Entry Draft

At the end of each subseason "C" (coinciding with simm player rerates) an entry draft will be held.

Maximum 8 rounds.
Teams must have roster room to draft rated players and prospect roster room to draft prospects, prior to drafting.
Any player on the unnassigned list or the current years NHL rookie draft list (Hockeys Future) is eligable to be drafted.

Order of draft is reverse order of finish based on the results of the last completed Simm season.
You may draft from the NHL's entry draft list for that year or unassigned player list with any of your picks.

Waiver Draft

At the end of each "B" subseason a waiver draft to help league balance will be held.
Waiver draft pick position cannot be traded.
Trading is frozen during the waiver draft.
Players 22 or under are exempt from the waiver draft
Prospects are exempt from the waiver draft
Waiver pick is in reverse order of standings from season just completed.
Each team can protect 9F, 6D &1G or  5D & 2G, teams will draft from other teams unprotected players in reverse order of final season position. The maximum players a team can loose to waiver draft is 3. Once a player is picked up by a team they cannot be picked by another team in current waiver draft.
Roster limits are not in effect during the waiver draft however limits will become effective after the season starts (The league will announce the timeline).
A team may pass on their waiver pick and not make one at all if they choose.
Once a team has exercised its three picks it is finished, no more choices can be made.

Player Positions

Players positions may be affected when the simulator is database updated with new stats. (Usually July)
Players positions will be based on what ever the updated simm player database says when it comes out. For a referral as to what the player position will likely be go to or http://www.nhl.com
If your player has changed his position  when new rerates come out and you feel it necessary to have it changed because it affects your team make up. You can ask to have that players position changed back to what it was the prior season, or change it to a position that is supported by one of the following approved sources http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players?league=nhlhttp://www.nhl.com
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players.html
,
http://www.nhlpa.com/content/theplayers/Home.asp , http://rapids.canoe.ca/acl/hplus/PlayerInfo/PlayerIndex.html , http://www.canada.com/sports/hockey.html,
http://www.sportsline.com/u/hockey/nhl/players/index.html .
The application for change must be emailed to the commish and include the URL that supports the change.
Players position can only be changed during the regular season.
Player changes are allowed to allow teams to balance/adjust their positions due to trades performance etc, they are not intended to be used to cover for injury of a player. Only in cases where a team cannot field the minimum required players at a position would we consider changing for injury.

Player Ageing

Players will age one year at the time of rerates being applied.
Ages will be corrected at each rerate to reflect actual age of the player.
Retirement (due to age or career ending injury) Any players who retire at the end of the real NHL will retire at the end of our season (we are always one year behind the NHL roster). Basically when a retired player has no ratings he will no longer be in the available in the simm.
Releasing Players
To release a player outright and off your roster can be done at any time. You must send the commissioner an e-mail indicating you would like to release player(s) and provide name(s). Should you be over the roaster limit because of a trade, you have 4 days to get the roster back to the limit. If you do not the lowest rated player(s) on your team will be automatically released by the league.
Eligible Players, NHL holdouts
Players who have stats provided for in the seasons database at the time of the entry draft are eligible to play on a team. If you have a player who did not receive ratings for the new stats when they come out, they will be removed from your roster and placed on your prospect list. (prospect max limit applies)  NOTE: These players will always remain the property of the original team they belonged to unless otherwise traded to another team or if the owning team (GHL) wishes to release them or trades them. Any players you may have in this situation will not count toward your max roster size until they are an active player again. If the player is released from their GHL team then the player will (if ratings are available) go into the next player draft pool)
Updating your lines
As a Gm you will be provided with the line editor and instructions on how to use it. The league will not alter your lines except in the following situations: (Auto'd refers to a process where the simm will make 4 full lines with the remaining players)
You have sent them in normally for updating.
You are away and have asked to have the lines Auto'd for you until you return.
They are corrupt and are causing problems for the Simm. (They will be auto's)
There are under 17 players active to play and are thus are not being competitive (They will be Auto'd)
There are over 20 active players on the game roster. (the lowest least used player will be removed from the line up at the Commish's disgression.) Rarely used as we don't check everyone's rosters every day.
They appear to be purposely set to throw a game. (Commish disgression, lines Auto'd)
A player returns from injury and you have not sent in lines. Generally when a injured player returns the simm will reinsert him in the lineup. If no lines are received from the GM when the next games are played the simm will automatically set new lines with the player back in. Bottom line, if you have players returning from injury it is wise to send in lines before the next game.
