June 30,1999 BLAST GETS A CREW And Biggs Names His... In a rather surprising turn of events, the Grand Vizier has organized his wrestlers into a solid group and apparently has annointed Biggie Biggs, the 3 time former Heavyweight Champion, as its spokesperson. Following Jay Lover's controversial victory over 'Stormin' Mike Norman, Biggs, Logan, Vizier and Woo made their way into the ring. Biggs then gave a speech saying,"The godfather of pro wrestling, Dennis Corraluzzo, told me that I should do anything I have to to get my belt back and bring it back to NJ! I promised Dennis that I would do just that! I'm going to take back what's mine...TONIGHT!" Biggs then went on about how NWA is about tradition and that when you hear tradition in the NWA you think about The Four Horsemen! "Well, in NWA-NJ you have the Elite Horsemen. Here in NWA-NY I'm creating the Dark Horsemen! Myself, Tommy Logan, Wayne Woo and The Grand Vizier are going to rule NWA-NY and make the Godfather, Dennis Corraluzzo, happy!"This group caused trouble through-out the night and attempted to take out several wrestlers. First on the list was Duke Snyder, who is making a bid for the Hardcore strap that Magic is holding, and that Wayne Woo and Tommy Logan both want. They went after Snyder in the Hardcore three way, and Duke almost pulled out the win, but Wayne pinned Duke as Duke was pinning Logan. They then worked over Duke viciously, alternating figure four leg locks. Out to make the save was none other than MAGIC, the current Hardcore Champion. The Dark Horsemen left the ring, there damage done. The Horsemen would strike again, as they had a hand in the Heavyweight Title match. Biggs entered the ring with Logan and the Vizier. BLAST arrived, looked at the odds, and went into the back. He returned with help. The man who walked alone, no longer walked alone. He had with him MAGIC! With the sides now even, BLAST and Biggs went about their business of trying to kill each other in this weapons match. Speculation as to whom the referee would be ended when "Fantastic" Ron Barrier entered the ring and the fans in attendance knew that BLAST was in trouble. Barrier exchanged hugs with Biggs and Vizier. Biggs and BLAST pummeled each other with the ladder, chain and strap. Logan used the Singapore Cane on BLAST. And the referee did nothing, though it was a weapons match. Outside the ring, MAGIC began battling long time foe Logan, BLAST got the upper hand and was about to put Biggs away with an avalanche when Biggs grabbed Barrier and put him in the way! Out went Barrier and in came Chief NWA referee Fred Richards. The match then turned and went BLAST's way. As BLAST was choking out Biggs with the chain, making his presence felt was Wayne Woo! Woo entered the ring and all hell broke lose.Woo took out Richards with a chair, MAGIC entered the ring to go after Woo, but Woo began whacking MAGIC with the chair. Logan tried getting in, but BLAST sent him out with shot to the head. BLAST then hit Biggs with a big splash, and MAGIC, who had taken out Woo with a well placed shot to the head, counted the three count. Logan tried to interfere, but he was stopped by Duke Snyder. After the match, the Horsemen were thrown out of the ring and the lines were drawn. The Dark Horsemen of Biggs, Logan, Woo, and Vizier against BLAST, MAGIC, Snyder and SI Nick. Where this leads is anyone's guess. Logan has said that he wants to beat Duke Snyder in a taped fist match, Biggs feels that he is more Hardcore than MAGIC, and that he has proven it many times, and Woo now feels it is his time for Heavyweight Gold. Vizier states that he can rule the titles in NWA-NY. Can he? Can Snyder, BLAST and MAGIC stop them? Can SI Nick match the wits of Vizier? Time will tell, and NWA-NY heats up! |
| NEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS!! Unsettled Differences Remain in Extreme Fahrenheit? In a stunning reversal of fortunes, the 18 month reign of Extreme Fahrenheit came to an abrupt end when the Champions turned on each other! Or, in reality, it was Motion turning on Grant. This re-ignited the fued that had been over for the past 18 months, and that raged for over 8 months before that! The beneficiaries of this turn of events: Guillotine LeGrande and Kamikaze Kid. When Motion crushed the skull of Heartbreaker with his own tag title belt, Kid and LeGrande became NWA tag champions! The match was a wrestling classic, as both teams exchanged mat holds, chain wrestling, and high spots! Double team manuevers were executed by both teams. During the match however, Motion was knocked off the apron, accidentally, several times, by Grant, who was thrown into the ropes by his opponents. It was found out later on that someone had pulled a rib on Motion in the locker room. Before the match, Motion had to take a quick shower because someone put itching powder in his wrestling gear. Several wrestlers, including LeGrande and Kid, pointed the finger at Grant. While Grant denied this, it appears as if this was another reason Motion turned on Grant. When Grant had Kamikaze in a sharpshooter, Motion made his move. He grabbed his title belt and crushed Grant. He they layed Kid on top of Grant, and the ref made a three count. The crowd was stunned. Motion then joined Kamikaze and LeGrande in torturing Grant. As they had done to Jimmy D. Ranged earlier in June, the heels began to work on breaking Grant's leg. Out to make a save, hobbling on his broken leg with his crutches was Jimmy D. Ranged. Ranged hit the ring, and was clobbered by Kamikaze and LeGrande. The heels were having a field day on the fan favorites. To stop the massacre, out came Paul Lauria and Mike Norman. Lauria splashed LeGrande in the corner, and Kamikaze was the victim of a spinning-tiger bomb from Norman!! Motion, after laying out a tired, beaten Grant, stated that he was tired of carrying around Grant's dead weight. Norman and Lauria promised to make LeGrande and Kid pay for Ranged's injury, and for trying to break Grant's leg. Norman stated that he was looking forward to taking the tag straps from his long-time hated foes. Grant was upset about Motion's turn, and losing the titles and would not give any comment to the press. He was treated by paramedics, and released. |
| THE FOREIGN UNION GETS....BIG? Preston Montgomery's Plan for NWA Domination At one point, in mid '98, Preston Montgomery Esq. had it all. He was about to gain the TV Champion in Zieg, he already had the Heavyweight title with Matthew T. Storm, the Jr. Heavyweight title was about to be his with Chris Michaels, and Crazy Ivan and POW were about to make a run for the tag team straps. Then the world fell in on him. Chris Michaels defected from the group and caused Matthew T. Storm to lose the title back to MAGIC. Zieg, lost, regained, then lost the TV title. Crazy Ivan couldn't grab any gold, and POW was an utter failure. His world crashed. By June 1999, Preston had nothing. No gold and not much in the talent department. But, if nothing else, Preston is not a loser. He used this down time to scout. And spend. And he did. He brought in The FleshEaters from Africa, and he bought the soul of someone who many thought of as a hero. He dropped what he considered dead weight in Zieg and Crazy Ivan. Preston split with long time wrestler Zieg after Zieg lost the TV Title to Devon Storm in Long Island. Preston's money brought a reprieve for himself. But in Brooklyn when it was found out that Preston caused the count-out that was the reason Zieg didn't recapture the TV title from Storm. Storm even gave Zieg a compliment that he could go far, just as soon as he gets rid of some dead weight in Preston. Zieg has, and Preston is looking for talent to teach Zieg a lesson. Preston is no longer looking at Foreign Talent exclusively. Word is that he is looking stateside as well. He brought in 'Mr. Puerto Rico' Carlos Cruz for a tryout against Zieg. He failed. He's gone. Such is the world of Preston Montgomery, Esq. He has no stomach for failures. Which brings us to the next dumping. In June, Preston dumped Crazy Ivan. He only had one win, even though it was over Chris Michaels. He retained, instead, the services of Eric Kreed. From Boston. Who else will make up this Big Union that Preston is talking about? Only time will tell. |
| KAMIKAZE/LeGRANDE v. LAURIE/NORMAN History of a Feud It began in days of wrestling past, when nary a man under six feet tall or 230 lbs would be said to stand a chance in the sport of kings. But as past becomes present, not only has the face of wrestling changed forever, but one of the least known, but longest running feuds began and rages still to this day. Three young men with dreams and aspirations bigger than themselves sought to break into the world of professional wrestling, and with much dedication, perseverence, and a "never say die" attitude, these three friends all made it. It was in the now legendary rings of ECW, EASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING, that STORMIN' MIKE NORMAN (the first of the three to actually wrestle pro), PAUL LAURIA (who at 5'4" dared to once call himself "the Giant" in ECW) and MIKEY WHIPWRECK (whose face you might see in the dictionary next to "underdog", ECW Triple Crown winner, current WCW Superstar, defeated STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN....need I continue??), all set the course for the underlying feud which even today has Long Island wrestling fans buzzing! It was in ECW that these friends learned what it meant to pay dues, overcome obstacles, and the unfortunate lesson that friends and business do NOT always mix! Of the three, the one to reach the highest level of success was, unarguably, Mikey Whipwreck. While Stormin' Norman fared well in ECW and other independent rings, he never reached the heights that Mikey had, and with no ill feelings, Stormin' Norman went about his business as somewhat of an independent journeyman. He left many impressed with his underrated ability. Paul Lauria however, continued for a time to compete in ECW. Realizing that his friend Mikey had far exceeded what he to that point had, Lauria decided to sell out his friendship with Mikey. He looked to ECW manager Jason Knight to set the stage for Lauria to face Mikey! To this day, the Lauria/Whipwreck feud remains among ECW's most memorable! In the end, Whipwreck remained on top, while Lauria remained hated and suddenly friendless. As Mikey continued on to his greater ECW successes, Norman and Lauria had crossed paths on the independent scene and found much success as reunited friends and tag team partners. While they competed throughout the Northeast, it was on Long Island where Paul Lauria and Stormin' Norman found a home in the hearts of independent wrestling fans! Through several years and organizations, through victories and defeats, good times and bad, the team of Lauria and Norman stood strong and found themselves contending for Light Heavyweight titles AND tag team titles in the now-defunct Ultimate Championship Wrestling. It was also in UCW where Lauria and Norman found themselves at the beginnings of a feud that would keep Long Island wrestling fans coming to indie shows- not to see the "names", but to see some of the wildest wrestling action around! Contending for the same titles as Norman and Lauria were a mysterious band of mercenaries know as LeGRANDE'S LEGION: the KAMIKAZE KID- an aerial master much akin to his name...JIMMY D.RANGED- known as Joel Hartgood in ECW, went bad somewhere along the way...and the leader, wrestler/manager GUILLOTINE LeGRANDE. For over a year, these men fought tooth and nail; often over pride rather than glory-for revenge rather than gold! Chairs were swung, tables were broken, blood was drawn. Most of all, THEY WRESTLED! Despite the hatred between these men, and despite the leadership of Guillotine LeGrande, this feud had culminated in promotions throughout Long Island and seemingly ended when Kamikaze Kid and Jimmy D.Ranged actually SHOOK HANDS with Lauria and Norman after a tag team contest. An enraged LeGrande has since parted ways with D.Ranged and has once again managed to gain the good graces of the Kamikaze Kid, setting the stage for this feud continuation...this time in NWA NY!!! While nobody has ever known for sure why LeGrande is bent on ending the careers of Lauria and Norman, things may have been made clearer on May 8th on Long Island. NWA NY promoters, looking to give Long Island wrestling fans what THEY wanted, did not hesitate in looking to pit Paul Lauria and Stormin' Mike Norman against Guillotine LeGrande and the Kamikaze Kid. The combatants didn't hesitate either, as NWA NY sweetened the pot by offering the victors a shot at NWA NY Tag Team Champions EXTREME FARENHEIT. It was an emotional night for Lauria and Norman, who aside from having an opportunity to wrestle their most hated opponents in front of their hometown crowd, also had their old friend Mikey Whipwreck- now a WCW Superstar- in their corner for the match! With much more than a shot at the champions at stake, the crowd witnessed an all-out fight and, in the end, one of the the most underhanded acts in NWA NY history! The match went back and forth with neither team getting a decisive edge until Mikey Whipwreck did the unthinkable! He turned on his so-called friends with a garbage pail to the head of Norman and a Whippersnapper on Giant Killer Paul Lauria- allowing LeGrande and the Kamikaze Kid to get the victory! And if that wasnt enough, Whipwreck then embraced LeGrande as the threesome continued their merciless attack on their downed foes, until one man came out of the crowd to put it to an end...Jimmy D.Ranged!!! D.Ranged chased Whipwreck away and flattened Guillotine and Kamikaze- his former allies- with a spear before he too fell to a blindsided attack from Whipwreck! Since that fateful night- Jimmy D.Ranged- who now goes by his given name LARRY MCKENNEY, suffered a broken leg at the hands of LeGrande and Kamikaze- taking him out of the picture immediately! LeGrande & Kamikaze Kid went on to defeat Extreme Farenheit for the NWA NY Tag Team titles. Paul Lauria and Stormin' Norman have went on record, to the delight of fans and NWA promoters alike, as saying that the war is far from over ( as evidenced in their battle moments after LeGrande & Kamikaze won the titles on Staten Island )...and fans have been left with several questions: WHY DOES LeGRANDE CONTINUE THIS FEUD WITH LAURIA AND NORMAN? WHY DID LARRY MCKENNEY LEAVE LeGRANDE's LEGION??? WHAT PART DOES MIKEY WHIPWRECK PLAY IN THIS WAR??? WILL THIS WAR EVER END???? Only time will tell- and only fate will allow all answers to be revealed...but one thing goes WITHOUT question- make sure you have your ticket for the next NWA NY event, 'cause we have a feeling Paul Lauria and Stormin' Norman mean it when they say...IT'S FAR FROM OVER!!! |
