School: Boston College Pick 18, Round 3 , Overall 78 Played football and basketball in high school. Redshirted in 1992. Played behind Mike Mamula in '93 and had two sacks. Started the first four games in '94 but then fractured his right ankle against Notre Dame. Came back to start in '95 and had 48 tackles, eight tackles for loss and a sack. Really improved in a new defensive scheme in '96 and became much more of a play maker. Was in on 74-18-9. Earned coaches' first-team All-Big East honors in '96. Good height and excellent jumping ability for a lineman. Has gotten bigger, stronger and better. Showed marked improvement in '96. Started slipping blocks and making plays, including plays in the backfield. Found the ball better, reacted more instinctively and played with greater intensity and confidence. Good range and chase ability. Can lever and control when he stays low. Nice arm-over move. Not that bulky or powerful. Long-legged, leggy-type runner who lacks great stop-and-start quickness and change-of-direction. Does not redirect that well. At times will have some problems getting through trash. Has the size and speed to be an NFL defensive end and really improved in '96. Seems to be a player on the rise but still has a ways to go. |
