| GANS Offices include: President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, District Directors (4), EKG Editor, Public Relations Director, Legislative Director, Community Service Director, BTN Director, and NEC (4) members. |
| 1. I would like to run, but how do I qualify? a) Have and maintain a status of good standing at your School of Nursing as verified by a written recommendation from the Dean or GANS Advisor of the school. b) Submit your candidate form no later than September 10, 2004 in order to be preslated. 2. What is the commitment really like? a) Attend the monthly GANS meeting in the specified Georgia city (dates to be set by the Executive Board) and be prepared to meet more frequently as the GANS convention approaches. b) Attend the GANS and NSNA conventions. c) Telephone and travel time d) Understand that GANS time is in addition to family, church, school, work and other committments. e) Depending on the yearly budget and funds in the GANS treasury, there may also be a financial commitment to your office. f) Be prepared to stay on the Sunday of GANS convention weekend to meet with the outgoing officers for advising and instructions. The newly-elected President should expect to stay longer than the other officers. 3. Okay, I qualify and can make the commitment. How do I run? a) Campaigns and elections are held at the GANS State Convention. b) Choose a Campaign Manager, if you feel it is necessary. This person should be outgoing, organized, and energetic. This person will "run" your campaign. c) Organize friends to help you at convention. d) Make a poster, slogans, buttons and freebies to give out at convention. e) Prepare a biographical sheet, poster and display for Campaign Headquarters. f) Be visable at convention. Meet people. Try to get involved in the House of Delegates. g) Prepare a campaign speech for the House of Delegates. 4. How long should be speech be and what should it contain? a) The Presidential candidate's speeches must be no longer than three minutes and all ohter must be no longer than two minutes. The Presidential candidates will also have five minutes to answer one questions prepared by the NEC and spontaneous questions from the delegates, all other offices will have three minutes to answer spontaneous questions from the delegates. b) The speech can be whatever you want it to be. A good speech should contain goals, and some qualifications you have for the position. (Don't overdo it. People are easily bored with too manys "I've don this and I've done thats".) Your speech should also incorporate your slogan (if you have one). c) Most important: Be Confident! If you do not believe in yourself, no one else will either. RELAX, SMILE, and HAVE A GOOD TIME!!!! |
