Representative Casey Eldridge
Casey Eldridge is a Sophomore at Bay City Central High School. She was a member of the House's Literacy Committee. She also nominated Senator Jason Julian as Speaker of the House.
Q: What were your duties?
A: I worked with my group drafting and revising our bill and also helped them defend it on the house floor.

Q: What is Student Congress?

A: It is 3 days of pretending to be a politician. You get to see what politician's really do and all the steps they have to go through to pass bills and write and research them, too.
I'd like to thank our state legislators for making this moment possible! Now, get that camera outta my face!
I wonder if the lobbyist delivered my note?
Oh, well, I'll just write another one!
Q: How can someone get involved in Student Congress?
A: They have to talk to Mrs. Bruder, if they are at Central High School. Then they have to go to the preliminary round known as Discussion Festival. (In the spring) There they discuss the topic (this year was secondary education) intelligently and work in groups to create a bill and defend it. If they get a high enough score, then they go on to Student Congress the following fall.

Q: What did you learn of value while here?

A: I learned that being a politician isn't as easy as people think, and that no matter how hard you campaign, you can still lose big. Robert's Rules of order aren't always followed...

Q: "Student Congress is a great experience for someone who..."

A: Likes to talk and is interested in politics or at least in changing things for the better. It's also good for people who don't mind sleep deprivation or having their picture taken ten thousand times!

Final thoughts:
Even though I had to work really hard, student congress was a lot of fun and I met some really cool people!
