What is Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia?
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity of America
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia was founded on October 6, 1898 at the
New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Since then it
has grown into the largest music fraternity in the world with over 150,000
initiates and chapters on over 200 college and university campuses across
America.
Today the spirit of Sinfonia carries on the ideals of its founding fathers:
- To encourage and actively promote the highest standards of creativity,
performance, education, and research in music in America
- To develop and encourage loyalty to the alma mater
- To foster the mutual welfare and brotherhood of students of music
- To develop the truest fraternal spirit among its members
- and, to instill in all people an awareness of music's important role
in the enrichment of the human spirit.
The
Local Chapter at the University of Texas at San Antonio was reactivated
as the
Nu Eta Chapter on February 27, 1998. The chapter is involved in
many different programs including an American Music recital given each semester,
Usher and Stage Crew work for the UTSA Recital Hall, promotion of semesterly
Music Division concerts, performing at retirement homes in the community, jam
sessions, and social events with other organizations on campus. Some of our
future plans include performing at elementary, middle, and high schools, working
with the Institute for Music Research at UTSA, Sinfonian Study Hall, and hosting
master classes.
Phi Mu Alpha offers: a positive opportunity for personal and musical
