Philosophy ???

I always liked philosophy. I'd tell you that I was big in the philosophy club, but the leader of it is on this list. Anyway, since I've come here, I've spent a great deal of time reading. As I've mentioned before, a lot of what I've learned about philosophy has scared me. The philosophers that you've learned and studied, those who are to be the wisest and most understanding from us have been used to support the Holocaust. Remember the old Monty Python song?

Immanual Kant was a real pissant\Who was very rarely stable

Kant was an incredible philosopher who in very thick books created all rules for human nature. When Eichman was on the stand, he showed that in The Third Reich, they lived under the precepts of Kant.

Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar\Who could think you under the table

Heidegger was one of the foremost thinkers of the twentieth century. He also was a card carrying member of the Nazi party.

David Hume could out consume\ Schopenhauer and Hegel
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine\ Who was just as schloshed as Schlegel

These four German philosophers were used to show the superiority of the German civilization. They were around 'till the Second Reich.

There's nothing Nietzche couldn't teach ya\'Bout the raising of the wrist

Nietzche has been called a Nazi. I strongly doubt it. Hitler was a strong follower of him, simply because Nietzche was German. From the quotes Hitler used he had only heard, and not read Nietzche. He was quoted out of context. The issue of higher levels of people as Nietzche put it was not as simplified or as radical as Hitler misinterpreted it. By the time Hitler heard of Nietzche, Nietzche would already have had to have been in the asylum.

Socrates, himself, was permanently pissed
John Stuart Mill, of his own free will
On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill
Plato they say, could stick it away
Half a crate of whiskey every day

Plato's notion of a superior race of thinkers who determined the future of the lower people's decisions was cited by Goerbels as a rationale for what allowing the Germans to be ruled.

We now return...

Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle
Hobbes was fond of his dram

Hobbes's views of a clean slate were the inspiration for the propaganda machine.

And Rene' Descartes was a drunken fart
"I drink, therefore I am"
Yes, Socrates, himself, is particularly missed
A lovely little thinker
But a bugger when he's pissed

But, let's add on to that. Calvin said we humans have original sin. The church has brought that to mean that the original sin is absolved by accepting Jesus. Since it was us who didn't believe, we were to be consdered the worst criminals of all.

Hitler would probably never have intentionally followed the doctrines of Marx, but a good 1.5 million Jews were killed in the USSR when Stalin wsa alligned with Hitler. It was Marx who felt that religion was the seperator of peoples.

Do I really have to explain why Machiavelli is on this list? His notion of ends justifying the means justified Hitler's horrible means.

The last one I can add at the moment is Herzl. Herzl, the father of modern Zionism, considered on of The people to make Israel a state. Same guy. His book, Der Judenstaat, which implored that the Jews needed theirown homeland in order to survive, was the first book ever read by Adolf Eichmann. He agreed that the Jews needed to have their own place, which was why initially, he tried to expell all of the Jews to various places. When sending us to other lands didn't work, he felt it necessary to send them to the next world.
