GENERAL INFORMATION
Grambling State University provides
the following types of financial aid:
Institutional, state, and federally funded assistance and all awarded financial aid, i.e. scholarships, loans grants, and earnings, provided to needy students who seek to further their
education, must be used for educational purposes.
Recipients must be accepted for admission to the University before aid will be awarded, and all financial aid applicants
MUST complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for Federal financial assistance. All federal, state, and university policies and other regulations governing student aid programs will be enforced.
The federal government provides most forms of financial aid. The 1998-99 Student Guide, the Financial Aid Information Page are helpful guides when searching for available forms of financial aid.
University Policy:
It is the primary responsibility of the student, parent, or guardian, and/or spouse to pay the cost of education
(e.g. general fees, room, board, books, supplies, personal expenses, and transportation). However, the University provides financial assistance to pay the basic cost of education based upon financial need and the availability of funds for need-based programs. The unmet need and family contribution of each financial aid recipient is classified as self-help. The Application for Federal Student Aid is used to determine the family's contribution toward the education of the student.
Students who accept awards but either (1) do not register or (2) register but later cancel their registration before classes begin, will have all awarded financial aid canceled for the fall and spring semester (if applicable). Upon withdrawal, the Student Financial Aid Office shall notify the lender in writing of the withdrawal date for Stafford Student Loans and Parent PLUS loan borrowers. Any loan
proceeds of a Stafford Student Loan or PLUS Loan will be refunded to the lender within 30 days of determination by the school that a student has withdrawn from the school or failed to return to school.
If the total of student's scholarships, grants, and loans exceed the amount of his/her fees, tuition, and/or university housing, the remaining funds are disbursed to the student as a cash payment in accordance with the University's refund policy.
All students interested in receiving financial aid should complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, at least four months before the beginning of the semester of anticipated need. The student must (at least 4 months before classes begin):
