Students interested in attending Grambling State University can request an admissions packet by completing the on-line Admissions Contact Card or printing the Application for Admissions and mailing required documents to the Office of Admissions.Admission to Grambling State University will be granted to students who meet basic requirements for admission listed below. All students must submit the items before the final acceptance process will be complete.

- ACT or SAT scores
- OFFICIAL transcript from all colleges previously attended (TRANSFER STUDENTS ONLY)

ACT or SAT scores are required of all students. The scores are used for placement purposes only. As soon as the decision is made, the applicant will be notified by the Office of Admissions/Recruitment. Decisions are made without regard to race, creed, or national origin.

- LOUISIANA APPLICANTS who are graduates of an accredited high school, or have successfully obtained a General Equivalency Diploma (GED), will be considered for regular admission. Louisiana students with Certificate of Achievement diplomas are not eligible for admission to Grambling State University. Louisiana applicants will be admitted CONDITIONALLY prior to graduation from high school with an application and fee of $10.00. In order to register, the student must submit an official transcript indicating date of graduation to the Office of Admissions.
- OUT-OF-STATE APPLICANTS who are graduates of an accredited high school, or have successfully obtained a General Equivalency Diploma (GED), will be considered for acceptance upon receipt of an application, $10.00 fee and an official transcript. Any student will be considered for acceptance with a composite test score of 17 and above on the ACT or 630 and above on the SAT. In order to register, the student must submit all documents to the appropriate offices.
Transfer applicants are students who have attended another college and must apply as a transfer student, not as a first-time freshman. Any information withheld or falsified may subject a student to dismissal. In order to be admitted, the following REQUIREMENTS must be met:
- Submit official transcripts from all accredited colleges/universities attended.
- Must be in "good academic standing" and eligible to return to the last college/university of attendance.
- Regular transfer student status will be given to all transfer students with a 2.0 and above GPA. Grambling State University reserves the right to decline admission to any student with less than a 2.0 GPA.
- Provisional status is given to transfer students prior to completion of the semester in which they are to enroll when applying.
Transfer evaluations will reflect all grades earned, but only grades of "C" and above will be accepted for credit at Grambling State University. Requested transfer evaluations will be made available to the academic advisors. A Transfer Evaluation Card must be returned to the Office of Admissions/Recruitment at least ten (10) days prior to arrival.
International applicants are students who are admitted, but are not United States citizens. An international student applying for admission to Grambling State University must have completed secondary school with above average grades. The applicant must have a high degree of competence in the English language. In order to be admitted as an international applicant, the following requirements must be met:
- Application for admission: completed and signed
- Application fee of $20.00 (Cashier's check or money order)
- Affidavit of Sponsorship
- TOEFL Score (minimum score of 450)
- Official high school transcript certifying completion of secondary school
- Medical History form - Immunization Record
The test of English as a Foreign Language is administered abroad three times per year at established and supplementary testing centers by the Educational Testing Service located in Princeton, New Jersey. TOEFL scores must be sent directly to the Office of Admissions/Recruitment (official scores ONLY). In addition, the applicant must be in good physical condition.
Students may enter Grambling State University prior to graduation from high school, provided they meet the following qualifications:
- Obtain at least a "B" average during six semesters of high school
- Obtain an ACT composite test score of "24" or above
- Recommendation from admission by high school principal or counselor
Each summer, the Office of Admissions/Recruitment sponsors a special enrichment program for secondary school juniors with outstanding academic ability. The program is designed to accomplish the following:
- Provide a dynamic opportunity for students to begin their college training prior to high school graduation.
- Provide participants with a variety of enriching exploratory experiences that are useful in helping them to begin finalizing their vocational and career goals.
- Extend the academic experiences of outstanding secondary school juniors to the university level.
- Help each participant realize his/her potential through exploratory guidance and counseling services provided by professional counselors.
To be eligible to participate in the summer program for High Ability Secondary School Students, the applicant must meet the following qualifications:
- Must have completed five semesters of high school credit
- Must be recommended by the principal or counselor as superior in scholastic achievement
- Must have a 3.00 or above grade point average
- In order to receive a scholarship to the High Ability Program (includes room, board and tuition), the student must have earned a 3.30 GPA or higher on a 4.00 scale.
Credit earned in the High Ability Program can be applied toward a degree program at Grambling State University.
Students who apply under the Senior Citizens Program (55 years of age or older) are not required to submit any credentials except proof of date of birth. Senior citizens are exempt from application fees and up to three hours in tuition and fees. Student ID cards are available for senior citizens. The ID card will entitle senior citizens to attend the same activities as regular students.
Any student not attending school for one regular semester, excluding summer sessions, must reapply for admission. The readmission application and other required items must be submitted to the Office of Admissions. Items needed in order to be readmitted are:
- Application for admission (completed and signed)
- Application fee of $5.00 (Cashier's check or money order)
- Official transcript from college(s) attended while absent from Grambling State University
Any prospective new student who is denied admission to Grambling State University has the right to appeal the decision by writing to the Admissions Committee - Post Office Box 864 - Grambling, LA 71245. A letter of appeal from the applicant and two (2) letters of recommendation from the principal, teacher or counselor must be submitted to the Admissions Committee. The prospective student will be notified of the decision by mail.
Academically talented high school students with a 3.00 GPA (4.00 scale) or above who meet at least three of the following criteria may be eligible for an out-of-state fee waiver (subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees):
- ACT of 24 or above (SAT of 940 or above)
- Leadership skills (extracurricular activities)
- Rank among top 10% of high school graduating class
- Interview with an admissions officer
Non academically, a student will qualify regardless of high school or college GPA (transfer student) if:
- One of the parents (mother or father only) graduated from Grambling State University
- Living with a parent (mother or father) who is currently a Louisiana resident
- A current member of the armed forces and the home of record is Louisiana
There are other limited eligibility requirements which generally do not apply to new students entering Grambling State University from out-of-state.
