Canyon View loves computers! Canyon View's Research Center has four multi-media computers available to students for research and word processing. As part of their computer lab experience, all fourth and fifth grade students were trained by Mrs. Gleed to use Encarta Multimedia Encyclopedia and Write word processor. Students who passed a mastery test are able to work independently in the Research Center.
Ten Coyote Techs were selected and trained to assist in the Research Center. Two students from each of the fifth grade classrooms alternate throughout the week to assure the computers and printers are running during the school day, and are properly shut down each afternoon. The Coyote Techs are available to help students when a problem arises that they can solve, and they inform Mrs. Gleed of problems that need her attention.
Nine classrooms from Canyon View participated in the Creature Feature telecommunication project with other schools throughout Poway Unified School District. Grades 1 through 5 were represented. A new project, "Dear Santa" , is currently under way. Six Canyon View classrooms are participating. Projects are planned and coordinated through the PUSD Telecommunication SIG (Similar Interest Group), using the TRW K.I.D.S. BBS. Sysop is Vern Nicklow of TRW; TeleSIG Coordinator is Rachel Gleed of Canyon View.
In Computer Lab, third, fourth and fifth grade students have completed their keyboarding units. Students are beginning a math unit Computer Lab. They will spend several weeks reinforcing math concepts and skills.
