Destruction
Tornados can be very destructive and also last a long time.
The Tri-State Tornado ripped through three states
and devastated 13 counties. The three states were Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.
Parrish (one of the towns that was completely destroyed) was never rebuilt
and now stands as a historic town of rubble. It's now a popular tourist attraction,
but many are there to remember those who died and also
learn how to avoid death by a tornado and the importance of knowing.
This town is a reminder to those that don't think of tornados as a threat,
and since then people have been more prepared and less deaths have occurred.
15,000 houses were destroyed and 695 lives were lost,
also the Tri-State Tornado lasted 3 and a half hours which is a tornado record.
Many people were left homeless after this disaster and many also left
heartbroken at the loss of one of their friends and/or family members.
The reason for this tornado lasting so long is unknown and
scientists are researching further into it but it proves that
not all tornados only last a few minutes.
Most People were not tornado educated and didn't prepare
for the tornado, although satellites and weather indicators
were not invented until the 1980's, so that is probably the reason the 10
most destructive tornados in history were held before the 1950's.
