Debating on the internet is like a spitting contest. Whoever can spit the furthest with the biggest most phlegm filled wad is the winner, asuming other people care to play. I've debated numerous places. I've met absolute nutaces from all political affiliations, and rational ones as well.
I began my internet political debating hobby on the now reformed yet still wild Marc Perkel's Flame Wall! This place was a large, 250KB wall that you had to visit every day to keep up with what was going on. The rants were long and angry, it was full of spammers and people making fake posts under the names of people they hated. My name was forged at least a total of twenty times. This took place before the '96 elections for the most part, I began debating there around Mid-June that year under my name, which I've kept since then. Sinistral
At The Flame Wall, which I've come to knickname "Perkeland" myself, I met numerous interesting individuals. Most of which I hardly see at all if at all anymore, so if I have something to say about them that's bad I have no need to fear ;)
I met Dugan (Very pro-life and popped a cork every now and again), Dan Sullivan (A liberatarian-leaning conservative), Carolyn (Her page is linked on my list of links ;) ), Prime (Very Liberal and loud yet likable), Waltrip (A liberal, who was unfortunately a bit of a fool), Howard Roark (High-flying Reaganite), Ed Malloy (An absolute lunitic), Jim Stone (Closet Gay Republican, trust me on this ;) ), Gary (Hated Clinton more than a Bull hates a bullfighter) and so on. Marc Perkel himself rarely showed his face.
I eventually expanded to the place which is currently my main stomping ground, the Interactive Message Boards at Turn Left, which is the most high-quality and worth-while boards I've come upon for debating. There's a share of looney visitors but I'm glad to say that they're tolerable enough to laugh at and move on.
Even at Turn Left there is heated discussion that fall into great big balls of boiling rage. Every once in a while there's a jerk who goes into serious gay-bashing, or finds it necesary to insult the President's daughter, or says something idioticly racist. But otherwise it's a great place.
I've left Perkeland since, (It just kept getting worse and worse, now I just show up on rare occasion to say something breif), but I've dwindled into other political areas for small periods of time, such as The Liberal Lounge's Boards, Rightgrrl's Boards, The Conservative Community Effort Boards.
Consider this the center for what I've learned about Political Debates over the time I've spent in them on the internet.
