JUNE 12: Heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman and former champ Lennox Lewis took the stand yesterday in a Manhattan courtroom in the first day of a proceeding that will determine the future direction of the heavyweight division. Rahman testified that he believed his contract with Cedric Kushner was ended after he refused to accept a late renewal payment. Lewis stated he needed an immediate rematch with Rahman because his skills are "deteriorating." The non-jury trial continues today. -Fightnews

May 22: Don King tells Lennox to call: Lennox Lewis could be back in the heavyweight title picture very soon according to Don King. King says Lennox is a great fighter and he'll welcome him with open arms. "All he has to do is call" said the legendary promoter who shocked the world by signing Hasim Rahman last Friday.
May 21: Steward confident of Lewis return: "Lennox will win the belts back in spectacular fashion" said Emanuel Steward on Thursday. "The punch he got nailed with would have KO'd anyone and it looks like we'll get the rematch right away, which Lennox is really looking forward to." Steward and Lewis have been staying in contact via phone and both are excited about the possibility of an August/September rematch.

MARCH 12: Botha remembers...July 15th: "Oh, I never got started in that fight, and that really hurts because I felt good and I felt I could do some things," Botha said. "I've had a lot of nightmares about that fight. I never got started and I got caught cold. But that's boxing. It's up to me now to stay active and hopefully get a couple of more big fights and put myself into position. It's an uphill climb now, but it's not impossible." MARCH 7: WBC/IBF/IBO heavyweight champ Lennox Lewis will box WBO champ Wladlimir Klitschko later this month in Las Vegas...as part of a new movie being filmed, titled Ocean's 11(starring Julia Roberts & Brad Pitt again!).
Originally Lewis was expected to face Mike Tyson in the movie, but it was decided there would be too much tension between the two.
MERCER ON LEWIS: In light of his impressive title defenses against Michael Grant, Francois Botha and most recently, David Tua, many people have forgotten the fact that Lennox Lewis was given all he could handle when he fought Mercer in 1996. FEB 20: Lewis-Tyson talks begin. It seems that Mike Tyson is finally ready to step into the ring with World Heavyweight Champion, Lennox Lewis. Tyson's handlers have said that after one more tune-up fight Tyson is willing to finally face Lennox. Adrian Ogun, Lennox's business manager said Lennox is "ready, willing and able to fight Mike Tyson at any time" and urged Tyson's advisor Shelly Finkel to stop the politics and sit down to negotiate. Let's hope Lewis' TV network (HBO) and Tyson's (Showtime) can agree on something, this is a fight that the fans truly deserve to see. -Kronkgym.com
FEB 15: WBC #1 heavyweight Mike Tyson advisor Shelly Finkel has been making the rounds, confirming that Iron Mike is up for a summer challenge against heavyweight champ Lennox Lewis, but first wants an interim fight in April or May possibly against David Izon. Lewis is targeting a July 21 date.
Lewis has been installed as 4/11 favorite by William Hill to beat Tyson, quoted at 2/1, with the draw at 33/1. "These prices stand for any Lewis-Tyson fight on or before December 31st, 2001, otherwise all bets will be void", said Hills' Graham Sharpe. -Fightnews

Lewis: Two more fights, then retire
JAN 25: No Lewis fight in South Africa!: South African promoter Joe Manyathi made headlines when he claimed he had the go-ahead from heavyweight champ Lennox Lewis to stage Lewis vs Mike Tyson in Johannesburg on July 21. However, Lewis advisor Frank Maloney said today, "At this present moment there is no truth he [Manyathi] has been commissioned to make the Tyson fight." Lewis defends against Hasim Rahman on April 21. -Fightnews

At the World Sports Awards, held in London's Royal Albert Hall, Lewis was crowned in the Combat Sports category(an award Ali had won) for his recent acheivements in unifying and defending the undisputed heavyweight titles. JAN 13: Lennox guest-starred in Fox's Mad TV, Lennox acted in two sketches as himself. The first being a press conference, as Aries Spears imitated Mike Tyson posing as a member of the press and asked Lennox why he is 'ducking' Mike.
The second sketch involved Lennox dining with Debra Wilson and "Mike" showed up as the waiter, taunting Lennox again to fight Mike. Lennox responded with a fake left uppercut. Lennox was not fooled by his disguises saying, "I know it's you, Mike Tyson".
