Lewis Has Tyson In His Sights

LONDON (Reuters) - World heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis has Mike Tyson firmly in his sights after reclaiming his World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation titles Saturday.

The 36-year-old Briton avenged his defeat to Hasim Rahman last April by knocking out the American in Las Vegas.

"The whole world wants me and Tyson to meet," Lewis told Radio 5 Live Sunday. "So we are going to see if we can get that fight together."

Lewis said he believed the former world undisputed champion wanted the fight.

Frank Maloney, Lewis's former manager, said Tyson was the only fight Lewis should consider.

"He needs a defining fight in his career if he really wants to get alongside the legends and rank up there with the greats," Maloney said.

Tyson says Lewis' Days as Champ Are Numbered

LONDON (Reuters) - Mike Tyson is relishing the prospect of a world heavyweight title showdown with Lennox Lewis next year and believes he will dethrone the champion.

"You had better start counting, Lewis, because your days as champion are numbered. Lewis said he wanted me next," Tyson was quoted as saying in The Sun newspaper on Tuesday.

"I am really looking forward to it. It will be the biggest-ever fight," said the American.

Briton Lewis made history last Saturday when he knocked out Hasim Rahman in the fourth round in Las Vegas to join Muhammad Ali and Evander Holyfield as the only fighters to be crowned world heavyweight champion for a third time. Lewis' victory won him back the World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation titles and set up what many predict will be the richest bout in history -- a long-awaited encounter with Tyson next year.
